The Newbuilding Department is involved from the preliminary design stage. Fleet managers are responsible for the maintenance and equipment of the existing fleet. Every project is different and each time the optimal configuration is put together.
And if it doesn't exist, we make it ourselves!Your RoleAs a Project Engineer within our Technical Division, you are responsible for coordinating and following up various technical conversion and conversion projects in order to guarantee the operational availability of ships and equipment. This in accordance with the specifications set by the Operations Division and within the planned time and budget. Your main duties and responsibilities are:
Preparing the specifications, construction plans and all relevant documents related to the conversion;Managing the technical tasks for your assigned ship or multiple ships and equipment on board, in consultation with the Fleet Manager. These include: The technical preparation of repair, conversion and refurbishment projects and monitoring the execution. Participating in the follow-up, adjustment and approval of the design work and technical purchases related to a conversion project. Preparing the budget for the conversion and monitoring/adjusting during and after the conversion. Ensuring the selection of the shipyard and subcontractors and taking care of the contractual relationship.
Building and maintaining contacts with the various internal departments (including Operations, Design and Marine Engineering, Logistics) as well as externally with suppliers, subcontractors, shipyards to adequately carry out the conversion, modifications and logistics activities. You are employed from our central offices in Aalst/Hofstade and are willing, depending on the phase and needs on the project, to travel abroad for shorter periods (usually 2-3 weeks). This will include following up on activities at local shipyards or with suppliers and subcontractors.
What do you need?You have a degree in mechanical or electromechanical engineering and have a first relevant work experience, e. g. within maintenance or an equivalent technical field. You have broad technical knowledge and are able to apply your knowledge to the installations for our ships in the short term. You have an analytical mind and strong communication skills, which are necessary to bring projects to a successful conclusion in a very dynamic environment. You have an organisational and planning mindset and enjoy technical challenges. You have problem-solving skills. You can express yourself fluently in English.
