Job Description

Our Substations & Renewables group is currently looking to add a Construction Project Manager to our growing team, based in Vaughan, ON.Reporting to the Senior Project Manager, we are seeking an experienced Construction Project Manager to manage Project Start Ups, Execution, and Close Outs as well as assist with Estimating and Bid Reviews for projects across Southern and Eastern Ontario, encompassing High Voltage Substation developments for major utility companies as well as Battery Energy Storage System (BESS) projects for renewable energy developers. The Project Manager is also the first point of contact for the Customer and reviews progress and provides guidance as required for changes necessary to the execution plan.Duties And ResponsibilitiesFacilitate the definition of project scope, goals and deliverables as well as establish resource requirements for projectsCoordinate with customers to determine project schedule and to establish and prepare reporting requirements Oversee initial startup documents and coordinate initial start-up meetings for projectsWork with Construction Supervisors / Managers to oversee the detailed project plan to monitor and track progress, providing direction and support to project teamsSuccessfully manage the relationship with the client and all stakeholders (including third parties/vendors)Ensure that all projects are delivered on time, within scope and within budgetAttend customer meetings to ensure status of the project is communicated appropriately to all stakeholders and participating partiesMonitor Progress, Costs on projects (management accounting and forecasting), Quality, Scope and identify deviations to customers and construction teamPrepare and submit reports defining project progress, problems, and solutions as well as monthly progress invoices Manage changes to the project scope, project schedule, and project costs using appropriate verification techniquesPerform risk management to minimize project risksOversee final packages, identify final cost and revenue on the projectComplete project evaluations and assessment of resultsProvide input into the Estimating process and review Estimate requirements with Estimating TeamReview Submittal Packages and assist in submitting proposals (writing deliverables, pricing review, scheduling, etc.)Support development of safety procedures & plansRequirementsPost-Secondary education in a related field (i.e. Engineering, Commerce, Construction Management)Proven track record of successful Project Management of construction projects Demonstrated knowledge of Project Management concepts and principlesDemonstrated understanding of construction drawings, specifications and project schedulesExperience utilizing Microsoft Project, Primavera P6 Scheduling and JD Edwards (or other PM tools)Preferred Skills / QualificationsProfessional Engineer or Certified Engineering TechnologistLinear construction experienceAbility to Read and interpret engineering drawingsProject Management Professional (PMP), or working towards certificationJob Posting End Date: November 9th, 2025BenefitsWe offer a comprehensive and competitive total rewards package that incorporates a complete range of employee benefits, including an RRSP matching program, to ensure you have the tools necessary to manage, maintain, and improve your health and wellbeing.About Our BusinessValard Construction is Canada's premier utility contractor providing comprehensive EPC+ (engineering, procurement, construction) and maintenance services to utilities, independent power producers, mining, oil and gas industries and rural electric associations.
