Job Description

Join the Department of State Development, Infrastructure and Planning (formerly Department of Housing, Local Government, Planning and Public Works). Regional and Spatial Planning is seeking a dynamic and experienced professional to join our team as the Manager (Spatial Mapping Unit) to lead a unit in producing mapping products and sourcing, transforming, and analysing spatial data to support land use and infrastructure planning at both regional and local levels. Your unit will support the development of regional plans across Queensland.

Your proven leadership and expert knowledge, experience and understanding of GIS, including map production, data governance, and data transformation will be essential to this role. Be part of a team that is making a difference by developing, reviewing and monitoring regional plans that facilitate outcomes focused on addressing existing and emerging land use planning issues of regional significance. As a Member Of The Management Team You WillDisplay leadership including the ability to supervise, develop and motivate staff to strive to improve both their technical skills and performance at an individual and team level.

Lead, manage and drive spatial analytical rigour to comprehend and interpret complex land, housing, infrastructure, population, and employment information to support land use and infrastructure planning at both regional and local levels. Lead and manage the overall delivery of projects and business-as-usual (BAU) activities to support a range of spatial mapping products and services. Lead the optimal use and application of GIS and Extract Transform Load (ETL) technologies in the team. The Department uses Esri's ArcGIS Pro for authoring content and ArcGIS Enterprise Portal for publishing online content internally, and Safe Software's FME for ETL data processing.

Resource and manage map production and spatial data projects, including contractors, to deliver high quality outputs and advice under various regular pressures. Create and maintain effective working relationships with Spatial Services in the department and other key stakeholders and data custodians, including but not limited to other state agencies, local governments and infrastructure agencies. Coordinate, lead, and attend meetings, forums, committees, and negotiations with a range of internal and external stakeholders. Coordinate and prepare quality correspondence, submissions, presentations, briefs, and reports on complex and sensitive issues for the delivery of projects.
