Job Description

The role of the Principal Project Officer is to provide leadership, coordination, implementation and evaluation of strategic departmental projects that support government priorities. As Principal Project Officer, you will join the Youth Detention Training Team and provide project leadership and coordination that aligns with evidence and best practice in response to a suite of Youth Detention training needs, strategies and initiatives.

As a Principal Project Officer, You Will SpecificallyProvide leadership and management in the development and implementation of projects, ensuring effective and high quality, innovative and practical responses to strategic priorities identified by government, including statewide initiatives for training for youth detention centre staff. Lead, oversee, coordinate and monitor key aspects of the project plan, including various connecting projects and ensure that the key components of the projects deliver the required outcomes. Manage human, financial and physical resources, including project specific teams ensuring effective governance, a culture of client services and the achievement of outputs required.

Represent the department with other levels of government and the non-government sector, where applicable, to ensure coordinated strategies and policies. Identify and provide advice on youth detention centre training requirements relevant to project activities and, where necessary, coordinate and oversee the provision of these within resourcing. Liaise with staff of other directorates, where applicable, to ensure that activities relevant to the project are appropriate. Build effective and enduring relationships with partners and key stakeholders. Contribute to the department's activities to achieve the vision in accordance with the values and priorities.

Demonstrate cultural capability and/or a commitment to developing cultural capability to ensure an inclusive culture that aligns with the Human Rights Act 2019 and supports departmental programs and community partnerships aimed at preserving cultural connections for Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples.
