Job Description

The Senior Advisor provides statewide mentoring, advice and training/education services to staff, carers and stakeholders in relation to complex child protection matters including child sexual abuse, harmful sexual behaviours and child sexual exploitation across the child protection continuum, as part of the Practice Advice and Support team. The Senior Advisor is responsible for delivering advice and support in accordance with legislation, policy, practice guidelines and a strengths-based framework for practice.

The position works in collaboration with the broader Specialist Services team providing integrated assistance across the state for those supporting children and young people who present with complex support needs. As a Senior Advisor You WillDevelop and provide high level advice, support, information and resources to departmental staff and external agencies with regard to highly complex and intersecting child protection issues in particular in relation to sexual abuse, harmful sexual behaviours and child sexual exploitation.

Facilitate and participate in large and small group processes designed to support decision making by child protection staff and agency partners in cases which are highly complex and where concerns around child sexual abuse, harmful sexual behaviour and child sexual exploitation are present. These processes have a central focus on holding the culture and context of each child, young person, family and community in mind, and are conducted in accordance with departmental policies and procedures, statutory responsibilities and the Strengthening Families Protecting Children Framework for Practice.

Participate and contribute productively as a PAS team member to form culturally appropriate, professional working relationships with colleagues and stakeholders, including non-government organisations, and other service providers. Participate and contribute to a culture and philosophy of continuous reflective review within the PAS team and wider Specialist Services team to ensure consistent quality support is provided to frontline service staff and agency partners, and engage in your own continuous learning, training and professional development to ensure practice knowledge and skills are contemporary and evidence-based. Maintain high quality case records in accordance with departmental case management requirements.

An ability to manage high case allocations whilst delivering professional and relevant summaries to the sector. Draw on professional practice experience in relevant child protection fields to provide delivery of support which translates theoretical and practical ideas pertaining to areas such as Alcohol and Other Drugs (AOD), Disability, and Domestic and Family Violence (DFV) into relevant frontline child protection practice. Contribute to the development of and independently deliver training to departmental staff and other government and non-government agencies in relation to child sexual abuse, harmful sexual behaviours and child sexual exploitation. Your Mandatory RequirementsA degree in the behavioural or social sciences from a recognised tertiary institute or possession of a degree in accordance with the Child Safety Qualification Requirements. The possession of a ‘C' class driver's licence and ability to undertake intrastate travel to meet identified service delivery need. Desirable RequirementsFrontline child protection experience.
