The opportunityAs a Scientist (Fisheries), You Will Work collaboratively within a team of scientists and technical staff from within the department and with other research organisations, such as universities and other government agencies, to undertake high impact applied research projects relevant to recreational fisheries development that are based on industry priorities and departmental goals. Develop and participate in research projects relating to sustainability, productivity, restoration and enhancement of recreational fisheries. Work as part of a team or independently to ensure project and departmental milestones, reporting and budget deadlines are met.
Assist with breeding of key recreational species for enhancement and reintroduction experiments. Effectively collect, manage and analyse data. Contribute to high-quality research project reports, peer reviewed scientific journal articles, media releases, newsletter articles, technical notes and other communication materials arising from project outputs. Liaise with landholders, waterways managers, local government and recreational fishers to achieve project outcomes. Communicate complex scientific information and project outcomes to various stakeholders, including collaborators, fisheries managers, waterways managers, recreational fishers and hatchery operators. Comply with occupational health and safety and animal ethics guidelines.
There may be some rostered weekend work and fieldwork away from base for periods of five to ten days at a time. What We Are Looking For (qualifications, Registrations, Experience)There are some qualifications that we see as essential. you must possess: Bachelor's degree or higher in science, biology, aquatic science, fisheries, aquaculture or equivalent from a recognised tertiary institution A current ‘C' class driver's licenceYou May Also Have Coxswains (highly desirable) or recreational boat licence Electrofishing experience (Senior electrofishing status as per the Australian code of electrofishing practice (desirable).
