About the RoleOur client is seeking - the R&D Lab director, you will oversee all material and chemical analysis activities for Hard Disk Drives (HDDs), related components, and manufacturing processes. Your primary mission is to ensure the highest reliability and cleanliness standards through advanced analytical technologies and collaboration across engineering, manufacturing, and R&D partners.You will work closely with internal teams and external partners — including universities — to drive root cause analysis, continuous improvement, and innovation in HDD manufacturing processes.ResponsibilitiesLead and manage material and chemical analysis of HDDs and components to ensure product reliability and quality.Collaborate with manufacturing, component, and HDD engineering teams to modernize and optimize analytical techniques across development and production phases.Conduct and oversee root cause analysis for internal and customer-related failures, implementing corrective actions in partnership with cross-functional teams and external vendors.Develop and enhance cleaning technologies and processes to maintain cleanliness standards in manufacturing environments.Partner with labs in the U.S. and Japan to identify root causes and develop effective solutions to material and chemical challenges.Build strong collaborations with Thai universities, driving joint research projects and fostering skills development in the field of materials and chemical science.QualificationsMaster’s degree or higher in Material Science, Chemistry, or a related field; PhD preferred.12–15 years of experience in material and chemical sciences, with proven laboratory analysis and leadership experience.Strong knowledge of material science and chemistry; familiarity with analytical tools such as RAMAN, SEM-EDX, and similar techniques is preferred.Strong data analysis and interpretation skills for decision-making and problem-solving.Systems-thinking mindset — able to connect interdependencies and foresee the broader impact of decisions.Excellent communication, presentation, and interpersonal skills with fluency in English (spoken and written).Strong business acumen and leadership capabilities, including team building, stakeholder management, and cross-functional collaboration.
