Head Strength and Conditioning CoachFLSA ClassificationFull-time ExemptReports toDirector of AthleticsSummary/objectiveJob Description Serve as Head Strength and Conditioning Coach. Manage all operations and development of the program to include individual student-athletes and group/team training for Randolph Athletics. The position involves working directly with sport head coaches and athletic training staff to design and implementation of training programs to help optimize conditioning, injury prevention, and overall physical and mental wellness. Design and implement strength and conditioning programs in-season, off-season, and pre-season for all varsity athletics programs in accordance with NSCA Strength and Conditioning Professional Standards guidelines. Monitor and teach proper techniques for strength conditioning. Reduce the likelihood of sports-related injuries or aggravation of existing injuries during practice sessions and/or scheduled contestsMeet Randolph, NCAA, and ODAC regulations and obligations, including operating budget and fiscal responsibilities. Evaluate and prioritize weight room strength and cardio equipment needs. If available, train, supervise, and evaluate part-time, graduate assistant, and/or volunteer assistants.
Responsible for assisting head coaches in supervising the physical conditioning and development of injury prevention techniques, preseason preparation of student-athletes, and post-season completion of program administrative duties. Additional DutiesHire and supervise weight room student workers, including managing budget and hours. Provide general counsel, guidance, and inspiration to students regarding their overall success, particularly including utilizing new student orientation activities, career services, academic success programs, living successfully in the residence halls and behaving within the College's student conduct expectations. Promote good sportsmanship. Assist, as needed, in developing positive alumni relations and fundraising efforts to support a competitive Div.
III athletics program. Assist with facility maintenance and equipment upkeep to ensure a clean, safe, and functional training environment. Perform additional departmental administrative duties and responsibilities as assigned. Demonstrate community involvement with active leadership as a positive role model and encouragement of student-athlete participation in mentoring or other service programs. CompetenciesCurrent standard first aid, CPR, and AED certifications. Knowledge of NCAA rules and ODAC policies and procedures. Excellent communication skills including effective verbal and written abilities. Strong organizational and leadership skills. Strong motivation skills. Ability to work effectively with a diverse population.
Ability to work effectively with students, staff, faculty and coaches. Ability to positively influence public relations between the Athletics Department, the campus, and the community. Computer and database skills necessary. Supervisory ResponsibilitiesIf available, directly supervise assistant(s), graduate assistant(s), and/or volunteer(s). Work environmentServes as a member of the Department of Athletics. Reports to the Director of Athletics. Must work effectively on a regular basis with members of the faculty and staff members in Athletics, Admission, Student Affairs, Alumnae/Alumni Relations, Institutional Advancement, and other College offices.
Physical demandsWorking environment includes both indoors and outdoors, exposure to various weather conditions, including temperature extremes. Indoor work environment may not be air conditioned during hot weather. Must have the physical ability to walk, lift up to 50 pounds, run, bend, twist, climb, see, hear, and communicate in English, both verbally and in writing. TravelTravel to/from athletics events as requested. Travel to NCAA and/or ODAC meetings, and/or professional development workshops required as necessary.
Required Education And ExperienceMinimum qualifications include a bachelor’s degree and a commitment to the values, standards, and expectations of NCAA Division III athletics and a liberal arts college. Current relevant professional certification by an independent agency such as the NSCA Certified Strength and Conditioning Specialist (CSCS) certificate. Preferred Education And ExperienceA master’s degree preferred with an emphasis in exercise science, exercise physiology, or physical education. Experience with the development and management of strength training programs at the college level.
