This role provides expert guidance on regulatory requirements, monitors legislative developments, and supports the business in navigating complex regulatory environments. The role works closely with in-market teams, government agencies, and internal stakeholders to protect Fonterra’s license to operate and enable commercial success. Key Accountabilities• Regulatory Compliance & Advisory - Provide expert advice on local regulatory requirements. Ensure Fonterra’s operations, products, and labelling comply with applicable food safety and regulatory standards, including halal and other religious requirements.• Market Access & Stakeholder Engagement - Support market access by maintaining strong relationships with regulatory authorities, industry bodies, and certification agencies. Represent Fonterra in regulatory discussions and advocate for practical, science-based outcomes. Interface with customs authorities to resolve clearance issues.• Monitoring & Interpretation - Track and interpret changes in food legislation, standards, and regulatory trends across the region. Communicate implications to the business and support proactive compliance planning.• Incident & Risk Management - Support the management of regulatory incidents, non-compliance issues, and product recalls. Contribute to risk assessments and escalation processes in line with Fonterra’s frameworks.• Documentation & Approvals - Coordinate regulatory submissions, product registrations, and approvals as required. Ensure documentation is accurate, complete, and aligned with local and global standards. Manage product registration processes and quota management (where applicable), ensuring compliance with local and international requirements.• Cross-functional Collaboration - Work closely with Quality, Technical, Legal, and Commercial teams to ensure regulatory considerations are embedded in product development, sourcing, and market execution.• Capability Building - Support the development of regulatory awareness and capability within in-market teams. Provide training and guidance on regulatory processes and expectations. About You• Tertiary qualification in Food Science, Technology, Law, or a related discipline.• 5-8 years of experience in regulatory affairs, food safety, or quality roles, preferably in FMCG or dairy.• Strong knowledge of food regulations and standards in their market.• Experience engaging with regulatory authorities and industry bodies, including customs authorities.• Experience managing product registration and quota management (where applicable), halal requirements and certification.• Excellent analytical, communication, and stakeholder management skills.• Ability to interpret complex legislation and translate it into practical business guidance.• Familiarity with Codex, WHO, ASEAN, and national food safety frameworks is advantageous.Are you excited about this opportunity but may only meet some requirements?At Fonterra, we are committed to building a diverse workplace and, therefore, open to looking at applicants with excellent transferable skills.
