OverviewBookNook is seeking passionate educators to join our tutoring community as independent contractors, working up to 30 hours per week. BookNook Tutors are on the front lines of closing the early-learning gap for K-8 students during a key period of their educational journey.Our Online Reading Tutors work in live, synchronous online tutoring sessions using the BookNook platform and video conferencing software. This is an exciting opportunity to have a direct, positive impact on students.BookNook tutors must reside in and work from the United States and have a US mailing address. We are unable to engage with tutors who reside in the following states: California, Hawaii, Massachusetts, New Hampshire, New Jersey, New York, and Vermont, as well as US territories.Position Specifics Position Type: 1099-eligible independent contractor Pay Rate: $20 per hour ($10 per 30-minute session) Timeline: Programming typically runs during the school year, with the busiest months from September-May Schedule: Up to 30 hours per week based on availability provided and the number of active tutoring programs. Schedules may vary based on school requestsSessions are held only on weekdays (no weekends) and can be before school, during school, or after schoolProgram duration varies. Knowledge of and experience with reading instruction based in the science of readingAbility to build meaningful connections with students to create a motivating and encouraging environmentCreativity and flexibility to meet students where they areClassroom experience and/or online teaching/tutoring experience in Reading/ELA is preferred; experience can include, but is not limited to:having a current/previous teaching licenseserving as a substitute teacher or teaching assistant, paraprofessional, professor, or instructorenrollment in a teacher credential or education degree programAND/OR tutoring for another tutoring companyAccess to a computer (laptop or desktop), webcam, clean and distraction-free environment, and reliable, high-speed internet connection with a speed of at least 20 mbps is a necessity for the positionOur Hiring Process Apply β€” Submit an application online and typically receive a decision within 5 business days regarding the next steps in the process Interview β€” Applicants invited to our one-way interview round will be asked to submit video responses answering questions designed to help us evaluate their experience and educational knowledge.
