Job Description

We are looking for a Research Access Reviewer who will be responsible for the initial internal review of Application Forms (SAFs), conducting the initial internal review of sample access and recontact Study Proposal types (ensuring appropriate elevation to Science and Access Team members), and the review of amendments to approved studies, annual study reports and publications.Our Future Health is the UK's largest ever health research programme, bringing people together to develop new ways to detect, prevent and treat diseases. We are a charity, supported by the UK Government, in partnership with charities and industry. We work closely with the NHS and with public authorities across all nations and regions of the UK.Our plan is to bring together 5 million volunteers from right across the UK who will be asked to contribute information to help build one of the most detailed pictures we have ever had of people's health. Researchers will be able to use this information to make new discoveries about human health and diseases. So future generations can live in good health for longer.What You'll Be DoingAccess to data and samples collected through Our Future Health, as well as re-contacting participants, is managed through an access process. Bonafide researchers may register and apply for access to the resource. They provide a study application to explain their research proposal which is reviewed by the Access Board. In this role, you will be responsible for the internal scientific review and oversight of the access process. This will include supporting the Access Board and researchers applying to access the resource. You will bring your experience and expertise in scientific research, and you will manage and support all elements of the access process to the highest standards. Your key responsibilities will include but not be limited to:Conducting internal scientific and technical reviews of research proposalsBeing responsible for supporting the oversight and management of the access process. Facilitating quick and efficient review turn-around times of research proposals submitted by researchersSupporting the Access Governance Manager and the wider Access Team in developing and delivering training to manage access queries from researchersSupporting the overarching Our Future Health access process to ensure its efficient and timely operation. Maintaining continued oversight of researchers and approved research studies during their lifecycles, such as the review of amendments, reports and publicationsForging and managing scientifically driven collaborations between researchersContributing to the development of Our Future Health policies and proceduresWorking closely with other teams within Our Future Health to further the aims of the organisation. Undertaking other duties deemed appropriate to the level of the post and to be flexible to the requirements of the environment and research programmeRequirementsTo succeed, you will have some of the following skills and experience:Life science post-graduate degree with experience of a post-graduate research environment, or a medical degree with experience of epidemiological/clinical research, or equivalent experienceAbility to identify and make independent and pragmatic judgements on research proposals, amendments and access-related queries received. To triage or respond to them accordingly and in a timely manner. Experience with governance processes in health research, for example in an academic, NHS, industry, or charity setting. Knowledge of workings of relevant external authorities and regulatory agenciesExperience of undertaking scientific research and in reviewing research proposals in comparable research projects or other relevant organisations.
