Do you want to contribute to better health for all?The Institute of Environmental Medicine (IMM) is a department at Karolinska Institutet and an interdisciplinary research institute. At IMM we conduct advanced research and education in environmental and occupational medicine, toxicology, physiology, epidemiology and biostatistics with a focus on clarifying how environmental and lifestyle factors affect human health. We are now recruiting a Research Assistant who will work with Associate Professors Anna Beronius and Emma Wincent on projects related to the impact of chemical exposure on endocrine signaling and function. The position will be hosted at the Unit of Biochemical Toxicology at IMM. The research at the unit aims at understanding the connection between exposure to chemicals and complex negative health effects, such as cancer and effects caused by endocrine disruption. One of our areas of focus is to develop novel methodologies for health risk assessment of chemicals that incorporate the latest scientific developments and meet the needs of decision makers. Your missionThe project is centered upon developing a New Approach Methodology (NAM) for identifying endocrine disrupting compounds based on gene transcription signatures, using zebrafish embryos as experimental model in combination with Adverse Outcome Pathway (AOP) methodology. As a research assistant in this project, your role is to plan and perform experiments using zebrafish, prepare samples and summarize data, and contribute to AOP network construction. Expected starting date is January-February 2026. The position is a full-time position and the employment is for a maximum of twelve months.Your profileWe are looking for an ambitious, highly motivated individual with a solid background in toxicology or similar at master’s level. Previous hands-on experience of working with zebrafish embryo as an experimental model is a requirement, as well as hands-on experience in assessing effects on zebrafish embryo development and growth by morphometric analysis using microscopy, RNA extraction and gene expression analysis. Experience working with larvae and juvenile stages of Zebrafish is considered an advantage, as well as experience in bioinformatic analysis of RNA sequencing data and experience working with adverse outcome pathway (AOP) methodology.The candidate must be able to work within a team of scientists from different disciplines and nationalities.
