Photonics and superconducting electronics team is part of VTT’s Microelectronics and Quantum Technology research area. We have a selection of competences from device simulation and design to nanofabrication in our world-class Micronova cleanrooms and state of the art characterization in our cryogenic laboratories (SQUIDs and other Superconducting devices). We do research in close collaboration with other VTT teams, research partners and customers both in Finland and abroad. We are members of the leading European quantum technology research projects as well as ESA projects. Your will be participating in tasks related with SQUID amplifiers in the detection chain of the X-IFU instrument: see arXiv:2502.10866. You will participate in a wider range of topics in the field of cryoelectronics in a longer term.We are looking for Research Scientist to the two or more of the following technologies and knowledge base: SQUID, Superconductivity, tunnel junctions, and metal-semiconductor interferences Design, modelling, and analysis of Josephson junction devices Micro and nano fabrication (e.g., thin film deposition, lithography, etching, electroplating, etc.) Low temperature measurements Low noise electronics design and construction As a Research Scientist, you will also: network with national and international ESA and quantum technology stakeholders, Conceive new research topics together with the team and the network, prepare projects around the new topics for national and international public funding sources, as well as customer projects document project progress material and communicate with project stakeholdersAdditionally, you have:M.Sc. or D.Sc. in physics, engineering physics, electrical engineering, chemical engineering, or related fields,know-how in the fields of quantum technologies,fluent in spoken and written English,as an asset, ability to coordinate projects involving experts from materials physics, device design, manufacturing processes and characterization,for senior scientist positions: extensive experience of leading international projects.As a person, we hope that you are:good at communicating and collaborating with people proactive and creativeclear documenting and reporting to stakeholdersable to identify and solve problems independently and understand the big picture to provide input at all stages of project workflexible and adaptive to handle uncertainty of dynamic research topicsexcellent communications skills in English are requiredWith VTT, you’ll enjoy: / What we offer you:Visionary work in technology.
