Job Description

The Department of Immunology, Genetics and Pathology at Uppsala University has a broad research profile with strong research groups focusing on cancer, genetic and autoimmune diseases. A fundamental idea at the department is to stimulate translational research and thereby promote closer interactions between medical research and health care. Research is presently organized in six research programs: Cancer Precision Medicine, Cancer Immunotherapy, Genomics and Neurobiology, Molecular Tools and Functional Genomics, Neuro-Oncology and Neurodegeneration and Vascular Biology. Departmental activities are also integrated with the units for Oncology, Clinical Genetics, Clinical Immunology, Clinical Pathology, and Hospital Physics at Uppsala University Hospital. The department has teaching assignments in several education programs, including Master Programs, at the Faculty of Medicine. The department has a yearly turnover of around SEK 550 million, out of which about two thirds derive from external funding. IGP has approximately 400 employees, out of which 100 are PhD-students, and there are in total more than 850 affiliated staff members. Ensure oversight, integration and daily operations of multiple research projects within the group. Procure and manage suppliers. Evaluate, analyze, review data, and communicate research externally. Partake in defining and strategize research direction for the group, and provide suggestions for new projects. Manage the supervision of other team members on a daily basis to ensure projects progress forward.The current projects involve co-stimulatory and other cell-cell interactions in the adaptive immune system, mainly in auto-immunity. This is done through in vitro assays simulating different auto immune diseases, clinical studies that are descriptive of the adaptive immune system in different diseases and, development of novel therapeutic approaches.RequirementsPh.D. researcher with a background in Medical research, preferably immunology. Experience in laboratory research with broad competence in various disciplines/methods. Experience in: molecular biology, structural biology, small to large animal experiments, writing grant applications and procurements. Authored and published several articles in reputable journals. Previous experience as a manager/project leader, with personnel responsibility. Team work and communication skills are pivotal to the position.Additional QualificationsExperience outside of academia will be considered. English communication skills at a native level.
