Audio Engineer InternReturn Records | On-Site | Fall 2025 | 20 Hours Per Week (Min)Overview: Return Records is looking to hire a talented audio engineer and music producer for the fall season to amplify our brand strategy and contribute unique content to our live productions by accelerating our production process. Partnering with our homebase of New York City Studios in Midtown Manhattan, the role of our Audio Engineering Intern will be to set-up music equipment for recording sessions, manage the tracking of MIDI and Audio tracks within key digital audio workstations (e. g.
, Ableton, Logic Pro, FL Studio), and collaborate with singers, songwriters, instrumentalists, and percussionists to produce new tracks that can be released via Return Records and Sony Music Group. Roles and Responsibilities: Set-up microphones, live instruments, and MIDI controllers to record demo tracksSet-up the audio/visual backlines for live events and/or promotional activitiesArrange demo recordings in key Digital Audio Workstations (e. g.
, Ableton, Logic Pro, FL Studio)Facilitate the end-to-end workflows of studio recording sessions with singers, songwriters, instrumentalists, and producersContribute creative input to musicians and songwriters on studio recording sessionsHost trainings and/or workshops with label artists and songwriters for how to record, finalize, and release new musicLearn from studio engineers, instrumentalists, and producers to remain up-to-date on key software, instruments, recording devices, and audio/visual processesContribute to marketing and strategy discussions for artist developmentRecruit new singers, songwriters, instrumentalists, and producers to record and release with the record labelManager the intake process for label recording sessions with label collaboratorsUpdate label marketing materials and/or business documentation as neededCompensation:
Interns will not receive a stipend. Students are required to show proof of admittance for school credit. Eligible for a 30% commission on all recording hours booked at $40/hourEligible for reimbursement of limited travel and food expenses, including public transport to/from home location to recording studio, and lunch/dinner/snacks during recording sessionsExpected to complete a minimum of 30 paid recording hours per month, and a minimum of 15 office hours per week to conduct activities such as session scheduling, trainings, team meetings, document updating, and distribution scheduling)Job Requirements:
Experience with operating analog and digital audio equipment, including mixers, microphones, interfaces, compressors, EQs, and effects processorsFamiliarity with Digital Audio Workstations (DAWs) such as Pro Tools, Logic Pro, Ableton Live, Reaper, or similarFamiliarity with multitrack recording, editing, mixing, and mastering across a variety of music genres and formatsFamiliarity with audio signal flow and the ability to troubleshoot signal chain issues quickly and efficientlyFamiliarity with acoustics, room treatment principles, and frequency response analysisExposure to a studio, live sound, broadcast, or post-production environment (or a mix of the above)Prior experience delivering high-quality audio in deadline-driven environmentsPrior experience collaborating with musicians, producers, content creators, or technical teams on audio production projectsAbility to explain technical issues to non-technical stakeholdersComfort working in cross-functional teams and taking creative and technical feedback in stride.
