There are seven library sites within the city; Central Library is located in Garden Place in the CBD and our community libraries are located at Chartwell, Dinsdale, Hillcrest, Glenview, St Andrews and Rototuna.Job DescriptionHe angituutanga: The opportunity We are seeking an experienced and passionate leader to manage our Library Hub and drive exceptional customer service and community engagement. This is a unique opportunity to lead a dynamic team, oversee library operations, and deliver innovative programmes that enrich our community.In this role, you will be responsible for the site Team Leader and service development (Whakaahu and Auaha) Librarians, ensuring a collaborative and high-performing environment. You will take ownership of Libraries’ front-of-house customer service and programming functions, designing and delivering a diverse range of programmes and events with a strong literacy focus. You will engage meaningfully with the community on a day-to-day basis and use this insight to shape library servicesAs a service leader, you are a people management superstar who fosters a “one team” culture, drives high performance, and ensures excellence in delivery. You will model a professional frontline library service that meets the needs of the community and create a safe, welcoming environment for both customers and staff.Key ResponsibilitiesLead and empower the team to achieve strategic goals and deliver outstanding services.Oversee the development and delivery of library services, events, and community programmes.Manage circulation and debt management policies and processes.Ensure smooth building operations and champion safety and security practices.Foster an environment of innovation and continuous improvement.Develop and maintain strong relationships with community stakeholders.Provide leadership, coaching, and regular feedback to staff, supporting emerging leadership.Maintain appropriate staffing levels through effective recruitment and development.Embed a customer-centric approach and ensure high-quality service delivery.Monitor and respond to customer feedback and incidents promptly.Why Join Us?Be part of a team that values innovation, collaboration, and community impact.Opportunity to lead meaningful projects and shape the future of library services.Supportive environment that encourages professional growth and development.QualificationsOo puumanawa me oo wheako | Your skills and experienceTertiary qualification in a relevant field (Master’s Degree in Library and Information Studies preferred).5+ years of proven leadership experience, including mentoring and managing day-to-day operations.Experience in customer service within a community services environment.Strong background in community programme delivery.Ability to translate strategy into actionable outcomes.Excellent interpersonal and communication skills, with the ability to work effectively in a bi-cultural and diverse environment.Analytical skills with attention to detail and strong reporting capability.Ability to manage multiple priorities and implement new ways of working.Professional registration (RLIANZA) and experience with Kotui LMS preferred but not essential.Flexibility to work across a 7-day roster, including evenings, weekends, and public holidays.Additional InformationHe aha te wariu o te utu kaimahi? | What’s the salary?
