Utilizing the nursing process, the RN-Surgery assesses, plans, implements, and evaluates patient care in collaboration with the interdisciplinary team to achieve optimal outcomes. This role supports surgical interventions across all age groups and ensures patient safety, comfort, and education throughout the perioperative process.Essential FunctionsDelivers patient-centered nursing care based on established standards of care and the nursing processAdministers medications and treatments as prescribed and in accordance with policyDocuments all aspects of patient care clearly and accuratelyMonitors, evaluates, and communicates patient condition to healthcare team, patient, and familyCoordinates and collaborates with surgical and interdisciplinary teams to ensure optimal patient careParticipates in patient transfer, discharge, and referrals as neededEducates patients and families on surgical procedures, recovery expectations, and post-operative careAdvocates for the physical and emotional well-being of patients throughout the surgical experienceKnowledge/Skills/Abilities/ExpectationsDemonstrated critical thinking, clinical judgment, and decision-making skillsAbility to function effectively in high-stress, fast-paced environmentsEffective communication and interpersonal skills with patients, families, and team membersCompetency in the use of electronic medical records (EMR) and other healthcare technologiesCommitment to continuous learning and professional developmentAbility to maintain patient confidentiality and comply with HIPAA guidelinesPhysical ability to perform required duties, including lifting, bending, standing, and walking for extended periodsWillingness to comply with all organizational and departmental policies and proceduresAttends required staff meetings and maintains required certifications and competenciesQualificationsEducationGraduate of an accredited School of Nursing. Bachelor of Science in Nursing (BSN) preferred. Licenses/CertificationsCurrent and valid Registered Nurse (RN) license in the state of practiceBasic Life Support (BLS) certification (required within time frame specified in facility policy)Advanced Cardiovascular Life Support (ACLS) certification (required within time frame specified in facility policy)Pediatric Advanced Life Support (PALS) certification (required within timeframe specified in facility policy)ExperienceMinimum of one year of clinical nursing experience preferredPrevious perioperative or surgical services experience strongly preferred
