Job Description

The Safety Coordinator is responsible for coordinating and providing support to most aspects of the safety programs within the company. Prepares and schedules training to cover emergency procedures, workplace safety, workplace hazards, and other safety-related topics. The Safety Coordinator must be fluent in Spanish and English, with exceptional written and verbal communication skills in both languages. This person must ensure compliance with applicable safety regulations, develop, and implement safety policies and procedures, conduct regular inspections, and provide training and guidance to employees. The safety coordinator is responsible for making sure the employees follow all safety regulations and promote a culture of safety throughout the organization. Experience working in heavy civil construction, including roadway and highway is a must, and airport work is a plus. The Safety Coordinator works closely with project managers, supervisors, and other team members to create a safe working environment.Responsibilities:Assist in implementing health and safety initiatives.Conduct regular safety audits and inspections. Help ensure adherence to local, state, and federal safety regulations.Developing and conducting training programs on safety topics.Aid in incident investigations and suggest preventive measures.Collect and maintain records of incidents and accidents and collaborate with the team to produce statistics for the company's leadership. Work closely with the Operations team and HR to manage Workers’ Compensation claims vehicle-related incidents and property damage. Assist in evaluating claims for potential financial impact.Promote the proper utilization of safety equipment and Personal Protective Equipment (PPE).Assist with risk assessments, including Job Hazard Analyses (JHAs).Review and occasionally conduct weekly Toolbox talks with the crews at the job sites.Contribute to the development of emergency response protocols and drills.Assist in organizing and preparing documentation for OCIP or CCIP programs.Prepare job-specific safety plans working alongside the operations team. Support communication with occupational physicians and medical professionals.Collaborate with operations to monitor safety compliance and identify concerns.Work together with and report to the company’s safety committee. Participate in workplace safety committees.Maintain Safety files and records. Help with the procurement of safety equipment and supplies.Stay informed about safety best practices, technology, and regulations.Coordinate equipment safety training with manufacturers.Participate in new employee safety orientations.Interact with third-party auditors and regulatory inspectors under supervision.Review and provide input on subcontractors' safety plans.Contribute to the establishment of safety requirements for subcontractors.Assist in evaluating subcontractors' safety compliance.Conducts subcontractor safety training sessions.Support the assessment of subcontractors’ safety qualifications.Ensure proper storage of hazardous materials.Prepare and oversee traffic control plans.Collaborate with the HR team in promoting and implementing Office safety and Employee Wellness programs. Other duties as assigned.Physical Requirements:This position may be required to perform site visits and inspections, which can involve walking, climbing, and navigating uneven terrain. May also need to lift and carry safety equipment, documents, or other materials. This position is subject to outside environmental conditions including extreme cold and hot temperatures according to the season. The worker is subject to the noise level at which shouting is necessary to communicate. This position is exposed to chemicals, fumes, odors, dust, mist, and gases. This position includes office responsibilities to complete administrative tasks such as developing safety programs, analyzing data, preparing reports, conducting training sessions, and communicating with project managers and team members. Office location might vary depending on company needs.Travel Requirements: The Safety Coordinator may need to travel regularly between different project sites. This may involve commuting or staying overnight at project locations for inspections or meetings.
