About This RoleSafety Specialist Blenheim Te Whiwhinga a mahi | The opportunityWe have an exciting opportunity for an experienced Safety Specialist to join Airbus Australia Pacific, supporting our operations across New Zealand. Based in Blenheim, this multi-site role provides oversight and guidance to personnel located at RNZAF Bases Ohakea and Whenuapai.Reporting to the Manager Safety Operations, you will play a key role in driving safety excellence by ensuring the Integrated Safety Management System (iSMS) is effectively implemented and maintained across our operations.This position offers the chance to contribute directly to Airbus' safety culture — working across both occupational (people) and operational (aviation) safety domains while partnering with teams to deliver practical, proactive safety outcomes.Key ResponsibilitiesProvide expert advice and support to operational areas to ensure safety programs and iSMS are effectively implemented.Promote and drive a strong safety culture through collaboration, coaching and assurance activities.Lead and participate in safety investigations under oversight, ensuring root causes are identified and corrective actions implemented.Conduct and support internal audits, assurance activities, and continuous improvement initiatives.Engage with internal and external stakeholders, including Defence partners, to maintain alignment with regulatory and organisational requirements.Participate in after-hours on-call duties and support multiple sites as required.Ko koe tēnei | About youSkillsTo be successful in this role, it is a requirement to be able to work in a team environment, have well developed relationship skills as well as good verbal and written skills. You will need to be someone who is able to work autonomously and to tight deadlines and work comfortably in a continuous improvement work environment. The skills and experience best suited to this role include:5+ years' experience in a safety-focused role, ideally within aviation or defence environments.Proven experience implementing and monitoring Safety Management Systems (SMS) across multiple sites.Strong knowledge of Defence and Civil Aviation legislation, safety standards, and regulatory compliance.Excellent interpersonal and problem-solving skills with the ability to influence, advise, and build collaborative relationships.Demonstrated ability to balance proactive and preventative approaches to safety management.Qualifications & CertificationsDiploma or higher in a Safety/Health discipline.Certification in a recognised investigation methodology.Certification in internal auditing (ISO9001, ISO14001, ISO45001, or equivalent).Certificate IV in Training & Assessment (highly desirable).Ko wai mātou | About us Airbus New Zealand is a leading aeronautical business employing people across multiple sites in Australia and New Zealand.At Airbus our people are the source of our strength.
