Job DescriptionThe Science Lab Specialist position is a 12-month position in the Natural Sciences Department on the Warrington Campus.
The successful candidate will prepare laboratories with appropriate setup, including equipment, instruments, and displays for student instruction; serve as the safety officer for the associated laboratory activities; maintain lab equipment, prepare solutions, make minor repairs, and request major repairs; and ensure cleanliness and safety of lab area and equipment, and orders supplies and materials as needed. Additional duties include, but are not limited to: maintenance and record keeping of material safety data sheets (MSDS) and hazardous materials, repair and purchase of lab equipment, and assisting chemistry faculty and students as necessary.
Compliance with OSHA, EPA, and other regulatory agencies is essential. The candidate will work with the facilities department to collect, record, and remove hazardous waste. The candidate will also ensure all safety equipment is in working order and all students, faculty, and staff are up to date on safety procedures in the laboratory. May be required to travel in-district and perform other duties as assigned. This position reports to the Department Head of Natural Sciences. Minimum Qualifications: Graduation from an accredited institution with a bachelor’s degree in biological, physical, or natural sciences required.
Successful results of a criminal background check are required. Pursuant to College policy, it is an employment eligibility requirement for an applicant to meet the requirements of435. 04(2), Florida Statutes, related to background investigations. Any person failing to meet the requirements of the statute will be deemed not qualified to hold employment in this position.
A Florida Department of Law Enforcement (FDLE) approved background check will be conducted on every successful candidate as a condition of employment, and any person who fails to disclose any adverse information contained in the background investigation at the time of submitting the employment application will be disqualified from employment. Preferred Qualifications: Prefer experience in a biological or natural science laboratory setting, and the ability to maintain accurate inventory records and place resourceful supply orders.
