Ripley Valley State Secondary College is seeking a motivated and detail-oriented Science Technician to join our expanding Science support team.You will play a key part in preparing and maintaining practical resources, supporting engaging science learning experiences for students in a dynamic and fast-growing school community.Apply now to be part of a dedicated team supporting innovative science education!This position is being offered in a Temporary Part-Time capacity (0.4FTE), 29 hours per fortnight.This is a progressional position as per the Role Description. The successful applicant will be appointed to the lower classification with eligibility for progression to the next, once specific criteria have been met or demonstrated. Please note salary rate shown is reflective of both classification ranges.Who We AreRipley Valley State Secondary College opened in 2020 and currently caters for over 1300 students in years 7 to 12. Staff joining the college must have exceptional relational skills, be driven to build a positive, welcoming and supportive learning culture and be willing and able to commit to the college's development and growth.Step Into Your Next ChapterPrepare, distribute and set up samples/demonstrations, class sets of equipment and associated scientific materials for practical teaching laboratory use.Prepare chemical solutions of known concentration from bulk supplies including concentrated acids, stains and media and manufacture simple glassware/general equipment for preparation-laboratory and teaching-laboratory use.Work independently in a science laboratory, recognising, anticipating and safely managing chemical hazards.Maintain scientific teaching resources, classrooms, storerooms, preparation rooms and laboratories in a clean, safe, orderly and secure manner.Maintain a safe chemical/laboratory waste storage/handling/preparation/disposal system in accordance with departmental guidelines, including labelling, secure storage, calibration and control of equipment and apparatus and Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs).The Perfect FitExceptional relational skillsExperience in the safe handling, storage and use of chemicals.Willing to work as part of a team and assist teaching staff in science experiment preparation, operation and clean-up.Sound knowledge of Workplace Health and Safety as they relate to science laboratories and be willing to promote a love of the sciences within our college communities.Submit Your ApplicationSubmit a brief resume (maximum 3 pages) including contact details for 2 referees (one of whom should be your current supervisor)Submit a maximum 2 page written response outlining your suitability for the role specifically how you will support, promote and enhance the science learning areas at Ripley Valley State Secondary College.We welcome all applicants to share any support needed to ensure our recruitment process is inclusive.Applications remain current for 12 months from the closing date and may be considered for appointment to identical or similar vacancies within the Department.Applications from recruitment agencies will not be accepted.Occupational group Education & Training
