Directorate: ScienceResponsible to: Senior Science TechnicianLocation: On CampusContract: Permanent, Monday-Friday, Term-Time, up to 37.5 HoursSalary: £21,486.54 inclusive of holiday payRole outline and purposeThe Science Technician will play a key role in supporting the effective delivery of the Chemistry curriculum at Lord Wandsworth College, working across all key stages up to A Level. Reporting to the Senior Science Technician and working as part of a collaborative team of Science Technicians, the post holder will lead on the preparation and maintenance of resources and equipment for Chemistry lessons.This role involves managing the Chemistry Prep Room and Chemical Store in line with CLEAPSS guidelines, preparing and trialling chemicals and apparatus for practical work, and ensuring a safe, organised, and efficient laboratory environment. The successful candidate will take a proactive approach to maintaining high standards of technical support.Role ResponsibilitiesThe timely preparation of apparatus for class practicals and demonstrations, including the preparation of chemicals and materialsThe setting up of the above equipment and the support of teaching staff during practical lessons as directed by the member of staffThe prompt clearing away and cleaning of apparatus following class practicalsMaintenance of laboratory equipment in good working order and organisation of its storageKeeping the laboratories supplied with sets of basic equipment and the storage areas clean and tidyIn conjunction with the Senior Science Technician or Head of Department, ensuring that safe storage legislation and Health and Safety advice is followed and that hazardous materials are disposed of safelyPerforming other reasonable duties required by the Senior Science Technician or Head of Department, which might be needed from time to time to ensure the smooth, efficient running of the departmentTo trial practicals, including controlled assessments, to ensure safe and appropriate procedures for teachers and pupilsPlace purchase orders and monitor expenditure against budgetCheck goods received and approve invoicesMaintain an inventory of departmental resourcesEither repair or organise the repair of equipmentManage the record of textbook issue to pupils and manage recharges for lost or damaged booksLiaise with IT department for any services requiredMaintain any COSHH records relevant to materials used in the department and issue them when appropriateAppointment Process And How To ApplyPlease apply via our LWC website using the Hire Road platform.The closing date for applications is midnight on 2nd November 2025 with interviews taking place W/C 10th November 2025.Should you wish to discuss the role in strict confidence please feel free to contact Sian Hamilton, hamiltons@lordwandsworth.orgWe welcome people of all faiths and those that are committed to these values.
