Brief DescriptionAt Vitalant, we’re dedicated to advancing the science of blood and saving lives through innovation. As a Scientific Data and Informatics Analyst with the Vitalant Research Institute, you’ll play a key role in supporting groundbreaking laboratory, epidemiological, and clinical research that drives better outcomes for patients and communities. In this role, you’ll design and implement data acquisition tools, databases, and analytics, while providing expertise in database structure, quality control, software and hardware needs, and operational performance across multiple research projects.As the Scientific Data and Informatics Analyst, you’ll get to:Oversee and manage resources across multiple projects and support activitiesDelegate tasks to staff to ensure project deliverables are metIdentify and resolve project team issues and conflictsLead or assist with data analysis effortsEnsure compliance with software development life cycle processes and recommend improvements as neededRequirementsKnowledge/ Education Bachelor of Science degree required. Master’s degree in computer or data science, management information systems, informatics, or related discipline preferred. Working knowledge of database systems, SQL and data analysis tools such asSAS, Stata, or R, data mapping and reporting tools (GIS, PowerBI, Tableau,etc.) required. Knowledge of programming languages, relational database structures, dimensional data modeling and data warehouse support required. Familiarity with the R and Python data science ecosystems, especially the tidyverse suite, SciPy, NumPy and pandas preferred. Understanding of scientific data needs preferred. Knowledge of quantitative analyses, statistics, or epidemiology preferred. Licenses/ Certifications Certified data professional (CDP) preferred. Project management professional (PMP) preferred. Oracle certified professional (OCP) preferred. ExperienceTwo years of experience required. Three years of experience in a research setting preferred. Two years of experience in academic/scientific environment preferred. Skills/ AbilitiesMust possess the skills and abilities to successfully perform all assigned duties and responsibilities. Must be able to maintain confidentiality. Must have analytical, statistical, personal organization, and problem-solving skills. Ability to work in a team environment and participate as an active team member. Ability to think strategically, synthesizes complex business and financial data, and develops innovative solutions. Must have good customer service and interpersonal skills. Effective oral and written communication skills. Able to organize, prioritize, and execute a variable workload and multiple priorities. Ability to work effectively with all levels of staff and management to provide consistent high levels of customer service. Effective oral and written business communication skills.
