Job Description

Your role at DynatraceWe believe in innovation through applied research. Across our European R&D offices—including Linz, Barcelona, and Vienna—engineers and researchers collaborate to build next-generation technologies that turn complex telemetry into clear, actionable insights. Our focus is real-time analytics at massive scale. Processing millions of metrics, logs, traces, and RUM events demands efficient algorithms, scalable architectures, and robust pipelines for ingest, storage, and low-latency anomaly detection.Core Research Areas IncludeTransaction processing, query optimization, and indexing/searchDistributed systems, stream processing, and large-scale data analysisDatabases, storage, caching, and new system architecturesLLM/RAG-based insights and pattern detection for observability use casesThese efforts enable rapid prototyping, measurable production impact, and a clear path from research to roadmap. We’re hiring an applied AI researcher who bridges product management and software engineering. You will own end-to-end discovery and prototyping for AI in Digital Experience Monitoring (DEM): understand user pain points and telemetry signals (RUM, logs, traces, metrics), identify high-impact AI opportunities, build proof-of-concepts with our in-house stack and modern AI tooling, and partner with PMs and engineering to land them on the roadmap. We offer this role full-time and are happy to consider part-time options starting at 30 hours per week.Your TasksBridge product and engineering to discover, prototype, and validate AI capabilities for DEM.Conduct applied research in scalable data processing; design efficient algorithms and architectures for large-scale data (e.g., pattern detection, multi-dimensional cube analytics).Build preprocessing pipelines for high-volume telemetry (logs, metrics, traces, RUM) and apply LLMs/generative AI to surface user insights.Rapidly prototype features (e.g., incident summaries, anomaly/root-cause hints, UX pattern insights), harden for scale, and define success metrics.Collaborate with engineering and stakeholders to operationalize algorithms; present findings to PM/dev teams and drive roadmap inclusion.Ensure privacy, security, and responsible AI; monitor production impact and iterate based on feedback. What Will Help You SucceedPhD/MSc in Computer Science, AI, or related field; track record of independent research (publications/conferences).Strong software engineering background (ideally Java) and experience building data analytics systems with ML frameworks.Expertise/interest in performance optimization and algorithms (indexing, pattern matching, sketching, query optimization).Hands-on with streaming/batch data (Kafka, Flink/Spark), OLAP/time-series analytics, and vector search/RAG with LLMs.Familiarity with observability/DEM signals (RUM, logs, traces, metrics), anomaly detection, and multivariate time-series modeling.Clear communicator with strong stakeholder skills; excellent English (oral and written). Why you will love being a DynatracerA one-product software company creating real value for the largest enterprises and millions of end customers globally, striving for a world where software works perfectly.Working with the latest technologies and at the forefront of innovation in tech on scale; but also, in other areas like marketing, design, or research.A team that thinks outside the box, welcomes unconventional ideas, and pushes boundaries. An environment that fosters innovation, enables creative collaboration, and allows you to grow.A globally unique and tailor-made career development program recognizing your potential, promoting your strengths, and supporting you in achieving your career goals.
