To support our R&D journey, we are seeking a Senior Automation Engineer. This role comes at a time when Lyngsø’s strong heritage in ship automation is being combined with NACOS Marine’s focus on delivering modern, integrated solutions for the maritime industry. The roleAs our new Senior Automation Engineer, you will design, develop, and implement automation solutions within the NACOS Automation portfolio. The role spans from R&D activities and close collaboration with engine manufacturers on new engine projects, to hands-on support and troubleshooting on vessels in operation, including longstanding systems that have been in service for decades. You will ensure that automation solutions integrate seamlessly with large marine engines and power management systems while remaining reliable and future-ready.Your tasks will range from developing new automation platforms to troubleshooting and making adjustments on vessels in operation, while also contributing to international projects, including newbuild activities.A significant part of the role encompasses both new development and the long-term support of existing systems, where maintenance will remain essential for years to come. You will work with advanced PLC programming, system integration, and test activities, from building environments and writing specifications to executing validation to ensuring our solutions deliver reliable performance and meet international type approval standards. You will be part of our Automation R&D team in Hørsholm and work closely with colleagues across NACOS Marine’s international setup. Collaboration will be key – both internally with Product Management, Navigation R&D, Service, and Field Engineering, and externally with engine manufacturers, shipyards, classification societies, and customers worldwide – to deliver automation systems that meet the highest standards of quality, safety, and long-term reliability at sea.The vision is to ensure the NACOS Automation product portfolio is:Most attractive automation solution amongst competitors, concerning features and costThat the portfolio has the best-in-class product offering, usability, and reliabilityThat the portfolio is maintainable and expandable concerning technologies and architectureThat the development organization has a clear understanding of deliverables and prioritiesThe Senior Automation Engineer will report to Thomas Junker, Senior Manager, Hørsholm, Automation R&D.Responsibilities:Design and develop maritime automation solutions for various applications, such as Engine Control and Power Management.Collaborate with cross-functional teams to understand requirements and deliver solutions.Implement and maintain automation frameworks and tools.Troubleshoot and resolve issues related to automation systems.Optimize existing automation processes to enhance performance and reliability.Provide technical guidance and mentorship to junior engineers.Stay updated with the latest trends and technologies in automation engineering.Good at written and oral EnglishSoft skills:Act as a trustworthy, pragmatic, and quality-minded Excellent communication and teamwork abilities.Support collaboration and finding solutions.Strong problem-solving skills and attention to detail.Good interpersonal skillsHard skills:Strong technical background, such as a Bachelor’s or master’s in engineering or similar technical educationSolid knowledge of engines, fuel systems, emission control, and ship operations is an advantageMinimum 5 years of experience in automation engineering, including understanding control loops, regulation, and calculationsHands-on experience with PLC programming and low-level programmingExperience with automation frameworks (IEC standards, Jenkins, Ansible, etc.); knowledge of DevOps practices and cloud tools (Azure) is an advantageExperience with Human Machine Interface (HMI) design and understanding of user interaction in automation systemsFamiliarity with maritime/class certification and type approval processes is considered an advantageAbility to work independently, manage multiple projects, and collaborate across international teamsWhy joinAt NACOS Marine, we believe in empowerment, ownership, and taking responsibility for our work.
