It requires self-discipline and the drive to contribute to something greater than ourselvesWhat You’ll DoWe are seeking a highly experienced and strategic Contract Senior Controller to provide crucial leadership for our finance department on a temporary basis across our US and Canadian entities. This is a critical, hands-on, short-term engagement, potentially lasting 3 months. The ideal candidate is a seasoned finance professional who can immediately step in to ensure the continuity of daily financial operations and provide strategic, forward-looking insights. Beyond maintaining the status quo, we are looking for a fresh perspective to review current finance processes, identify opportunities for automation, and help develop a strategic roadmap for the department.ResponsibilitiesHands-On Financial OperationsImmediately dive into the details and manage all daily financial operations, including general ledger, accounts payable, accounts receivable, and payroll for both the US and Canadian entitiesEnsure timely and accurate month-end and year-end closing processes for all entities, including inter-company reconciliations and foreign currency considerationsPrepare and review financial statements, ensuring compliance with US GAAP and local statutory requirements (specifically Canadian GAAP/IFRS familiarity is a strong asset)Actively manage and monitor cash flow, banking relationships, and short-term financial planningOversee tax compliance activities and liaise with external auditors as needed for both jurisdictionsProvide direct leadership and support to finance team members, ensuring all tactical tasks are completed accurately and on timeStrategic Review & Process OptimizationConduct a thorough, hands-on review of existing, multi-entity finance processes and controls with a critical, independent eye, noting differences and inefficiencies between the US and Canadian operationsIdentify areas of inefficiency and recommend actionable improvements for greater accuracy, faster closing cycles, and better visibility across bordersResearch and propose opportunities for automation of routine financial tasksBegin to draft a preliminary strategy and future-state plan for the global finance function. This will be prepared in collaboration with our current controller (who will be out of the office for the first 4 weeks of the contract). Who You Are10+ years of progressive experience in finance and accounting, with a minimum of 5 years in a Controller or Senior Finance leadership roleDirect, recent experience managing the full-cycle accounting and reporting for multiple countries, specifically the US and CanadaProven experience in a highly hands-on role where tactical execution and strategic oversight were balancedDemonstrated knowledge of finance technology and automation tools (ERP systems, reporting software, etc.)Strong knowledge of Generally Accepted Accounting Principles (US GAAP).
