Senior Data Scientist – Transaction Monitoring (Hybrid, Netherlands): One Year ContractJoin a leading Dutch bank using data science to protect the financial system. In this role, you’ll apply advanced analytics to detect criminal behaviour in financial transactions — helping to stop money laundering and terrorist financing. Your work ensures analysts focus on the cases that matter most, directly strengthening the bank’s gatekeeper role.What you’ll doDevelop and optimise transaction monitoring models that identify suspicious activity across millions of customer accounts.Analyse complex datasets, uncover behavioural patterns, and refine rules that improve detection accuracy.Work closely with IT, risk and compliance teams to translate analytical insights into effective, production-ready solutions.Explore new data sources and innovative techniques, preparing the ground for future machine learning integration.Coach and support junior data scientists in applying best practices and maintaining model consistency.What you’ll bring (must-have)Master’s or PhD in Data Science, Econometrics, Mathematics or a related field.5+ years’ experience in analytics, modelling or AI, ideally with large datasets.Strong proficiency in Python, PySpark and Spark (Azure Databricks experience a plus).Proven track record of bringing analytical models to production.Clear communication skills and the ability to align technical solutions with business goals.A proactive mindset, structured approach, and passion for using analytics to fight financial crime.Practicalities: Hybrid working, 32–36 hours per week.
