Reports to: Managing Editor, Cairo ReviewPurpose: The job holder supports the overall editorial and operational management of the journal. The position oversees content planning, editing, digital and print production, and post-publication outreach. The role ensures journalistic integrity, accuracy, and alignment with AUC’s mission of promoting global dialogue. The job holder contributes to strategic development by identifying new partnerships, digital innovations, and editorial opportunities to expand the publication’s reach and influence.Responsibilities:Editorial Management: Coordinate all stages of the production cycle, including topic development, writing assignments, editing, proofreading, and fact-checkingContent Development: Oversee research, writing, and editing for feature articles, Q&As, op-eds, and podcasts. Review and finalize all journal content for accuracy, tone, and consistencyDigital and Print Production: Supervise the layout, design, and printing. Manage production schedules and ensure timely delivery of both online and print editionsPlanning and Innovation: Work with the Managing Editor to develop content and engagement strategies that strengthen the journal’s reputation and readership. Introduce innovative digital formats and multimedia storytellingPartnerships and Outreach: Liaise with AUC units and external entities such as authors, publishers, and distribution partners. Represent the journal in professional and academic forumsFinancial and Administrative Oversight: Assist with the operational activities including payments, author contracts, subscriptions, and vendor coordination. Maintain the journal’s database, storage, and archivesFundraising and Business Development: Contribute to grant writing, sponsorships, and revenue generation through subscriptions, advertising, and partnershipsQuality Assurance and Compliance: Ensure that all journal outputs meet AUC’s academic, ethical, and editorial standards. Maintain consistent quality across content platformsAdditional Related Duties: Perform other related duties as assignedRequirements:Minimum Education Requirements:Bachelor’s degree required, Master’s degree preferred in Journalism, International Affairs, or related discipline.Experience:Minimum 10 years of experience with 7 years’ experience of solid ability as a writer, editor, editorial coordinator and digital media journalistA minimum of three years’ experience at a print or online publication.Proven record of leading teams and overseeing both content and design workflows in a publication settingSkills:Editorial Leadership: Expertise in shaping journalistic direction and publication strategy. Ability to conceptualize and execute new editorial initiatives and special issuesDigital Publishing & Innovation: Advanced knowledge of CMS, multimedia storytelling, and podcast production. Experience in optimizing content for digital readership and social engagementStakeholder & Contributor Management: Skilled in managing authors, freelancers, and editorial teams. Strong negotiation and communication abilities with external partnersResearch & Analysis: Strong ability to investigate, verify, and interpret information from multiple sources to produce accurate, insightful, and contextually sound editorial contentThis position is open until November 23, 2025Placement is based on the candidate’s experience and skills.
