We are looking for a curious and purpose-driven colleague to help us build transparency around the exciting decarbonisation journey our company is undertaking. The demand for climate action from customers, investors, and regulators is increasing, and low GHG emissions solutions are becoming an imperative to decarbonize supply chains; you will play a crucial role in enabling this.About the Team:The Energy Transition - Transparency & Enablement function is a group of 35+ professionals driving data integrity, transparency, and governance across Maersk’s decarbonisation efforts.We are structured around six key pillars: Compliance reporting and implementation: responsible for assessing the impact on the business, maritime compliance reporting to authorities and contributing to the optimization Climate action impacts: responsible for target development, setting, progress reporting, defining the impact of the upcoming development (eg. SBTi new guidance, ISO Net zero standard) Transition Funding Enablement: responsible for developing and maintaining solutions to commercialize the decarbonisation Data Performance visibility & insights: responsible for working with complex data environment, data cubes, building the data foundation and providing insights to inform business decisions related to the transition Operational & Process Excellence: responsible for developing a culture of effective project management, establishing processes, identifying risks, performing data controls as we prepare to scale up Sustainability: responsible for life-cycle assessments of fuels and due diligence, with a focus on green fuelsThis team plays the critical role of an enabler to the energy transition for the company, therefore interacts with many stakeholders, within the Energy Transition teams and far beyond.About the Role: The GHG specialist will work across all pillars, with a focus on 2., 3. and 4. You will support the implementation of existing standards using data, while actively engaging with standard setting bodies, through working groups and pilot testing. Maersk integrator strategy also means we have multiple diverse internal business functions to support, across ocean, truck, rail, air and barge transport, as well as the energy procurement for all modes.The role will be broad, and you will be part of a team that covers many areas, but most tasks include translating GHG accounting frameworks into practical applications:Working across all our transportation modes, and different ownership modelsDeveloping methodologies for new products for our customers, through which they can account for the benefits of our decarbonisation effortsTesting upcoming framework updates and provide feedback (e.g. SBTi guidance, GHG P)Compiling corporate GHG Emission Inventories through CSRD Specialist contribution, including updating the company transition planActing as a subject matter expert on environmental attributes in contractual agreementsInvestigating relevance of low emission energy sources across certification schemes (e.g. ISCC) and applicability within the businessEstablishing governance rules to safeguard correct data is communicatedContributing to prepare emissions data for 3rd party auditsWhat you will bring: You bring a positive mindset and a “can-do” attitude. We believe work is more enjoyable and productive in a supportive environment, and we hope you’ll help make our team a place where it’s fun to come to work every day.Your skills must include, translating the complexities of the GHG frameworks, into simple to understand guidance for business functions, making it accessible for non-specialists.Ideally, you would consider yourself as expert in one or many of the following specific fields:GHG Protocol accounting: Essential requirement. You know the GHG Protocol inside out, and you can apply the knowledge to shape developing frameworks – in order to make sure they are company-relevant and find innovative ways to fund the transition (through regulatory or voluntary mechanisms). Experience in both non-financial and financial accounting is a plus.Novel GHG accounting applications: as the market evolves and innovative business models arise, expertise in emerging carbon markets, including experience with mechanisms such as carbon removal, avoided emissions, negative CI emissions, will be able to play a key role in future product development.Innovative thinking: you can think outside-the-box as what we are aiming to achieve is well on the way and this has never been done before.Supplier engagement frameworks expertise: The upcoming SBTi standards may be changing the scope 3 focus into “alignment targets” of the company vendors, which will require a high focus on supplier engagement and data gathering. We will need the expertise and resources to be able to assist our sustainable procurement in the supplier engagement programmes, and explore opportunities with our vendors, to utilize their decarbonisation successes with our customers.Book & Claim: some market-based mechanisms could be on the verge of acceptance, creating critical opportunities to move from “driving & shaping frameworks” towards “real life implementation” which may include regulatory work.Chain of Custody: CoC frameworks are advancing in other industries. Our current focus on transportation does not allow us to learn from other industries, outside experience could open new opportunities.ISO standards: experience in implementing, developing and reviewing international standards for GHG and environmental accounting. As new standards emerge to support sustainability assurance, the ability to understand and apply them effectively, capturing their value for Maersk and its customers, is important.Other relevant experience in hard-to-abate sectors or commodities decarbonisation is considered advantageousStorytelling: cut through the complexity of your subject matter expertise, in public speaking, in facilitation, in writingTime management and capability to deal with multiple priorities, embracing ambiguityWe welcome candidates from diverse backgrounds (e.g. economics, engineering,) and sectors (e.g. agriculture, other hard-to-abate,), but above all, we value practical experience and a genuine interest in this area.What we offer: You will join a very skilled team of specialists and experts who are passionate to drive the decarbonisation of the group and wider maritime industry.
