with focus on researchDo you want to contribute to better health for all?The Institute for Environmental Medicine (IMM) conducts research in toxicology, epidemiology, environmental and occupational medicine and physiology with the aim to clarify how environmental and lifestyle factors affect human health. IMM educates students, doctoral students and professionals in toxicology, work and health, epidemiology, registry-based research, global and equal care and health, biostatistics, and health promotion. IMM is responsible for the master's programme in toxicology and the master's programme in work and health at Karolinska Institutet (KI). IMM is a national expert body in environmental medicine. Researchers at IMM are scientific advisors to authorities and other decision makers and participate in national and international expert groups.Description Of The Subject AreaToxicology is a subject area that investigates the mechanisms and toxic effects of chemical substances with the aim of identifying risks to humans and contributing to sustainable development. Occupational toxicology deals with the scientific methodology for assessing the risks to people from exposure in the work environment to chemical substances, such as airborne chemicals, pesticides and persistent organic pollutants. Within occupational toxicology, methodology and understanding of how toxicological studies (in vitro, in vivo and computer models) and human studies can be designed, interpreted and integrated to calculate and prevent negative health effects in the work environment and how this knowledge interacts with regulations and various societal stakeholders, such as individual workers, central authorities and international organisations.Your missionYou will independently conduct and lead research in occupational toxicology as well as supervise degree projects at master’s level, doctoral students and postdocs. The duties also include to participate in IMM's mission as a national expert body in environmental medicine according to Ordinance (1994:1244) on the Institute for Environmental Medicine, with particular responsibility for occupational toxicological health risk assessment. The work involves, among other things, participating in national and international expert groups, contributing to the development of limit values in working life and assisting authorities with scientifically based documentation. You will have a lot of contact with Swedish authorities.Your role also includes teaching in toxicology, health risk assessment and risk management within KI's various educational programmes, in particular the courses for which IMM is responsible, such as within the master's programme in toxicology and the master's programme in work and health.Eligibility RequirementsTo be eligible for an employment as Senior Lecturer with focus on research, in addition to holding a Degree of Doctor, PhD, or having equivalent scientific expertise, the applicant must have demonstrated excellent scientific skills and very good pedagogical skills.For employment as Senior Lecturer at Karolinska Institutet, the eligibility requirements are stated in the Instructions regarding the Appointment Procedure and these are applied in relation to established profile of employment:See the instructions regarding the Appointment Procedure for Teachers at Karolinska Institutet.It is a requirement that you have completed 10 weeks of courses on teaching in higher education, as indicated in the recommendations of the Association of Swedish Higher Education Institution. If you lack such education at the time of employment, you must undergo such education during the first two years of employment.Assessment criteriaThe Senior Lectureship has a focus on research.
