Senior Legal Manager

My client, a foreign consumer tech company, is seeking a Senior Legal Manager to support its business expansion in Japan.The company is well established and widely recognized in its home market but remains relatively new to Japan.The Japan legal function currently consists of one Legal Director, and the company is now looking to add two additional members to the team.Key ResponsibilitiesHandle a diverse range of legal and compliance matters across Japan operations, including e-commerce, product, operations, HR, real estate, and regulatory topics.Draft, review, and negotiate a broad variety of commercial agreements with external partners.Support new business launches and product rollouts from a legal and regulatory perspective.Collaborate closely with cross-functional partners — including Business, Product, Operations, Compliance, Procurement, and Finance — to drive projects and company-wide initiatives.Manage relationships with external counsel and oversee their deliverables where necessary. QualificationsLicensed attorney qualified in Japan.At least 8 years of post-qualification experience, ideally combining law firm and in-house roles.Native-level proficiency in Japanese; business-level English preferred but not mandatory.Proven ability to deliver pragmatic, creative, and business-focused legal advice in fast-moving environments.Curiosity, adaptability, and an appetite for continuous learning and new challenges.Strong communication skills, both verbal and written, and sound professional judgment.Compensation20 - 25M totalAgent's commentI highly recommend this position to professionals who are looking to gain broad experience.The combination of a small, agile team and substantial resources creates an ideal environment for ambitious individuals.
