Start here. Grow here. AECOM is seeking a Senior Mechanical Engineer with proven expertise in rotating equipment to join our team in Bucharest (hybrid work available). The role focuses on the design, specification, and integration of rotating machinery such as pumps, blowers, compressors, and mixers. Strong experience in piping systems and water/wastewater treatment equipment will be considered a major advantage, while knowledge of static equipment (tanks, vessels, heat exchangers) will be an additional asset. Job Description Here is what you will do: Lead the design, specification, and integration of rotating equipment (pumps, blowers, compressors, mixers, aeration systems) will represent primary focus. Prepare and review datasheets, calculations, specifications, and technical reports, with emphasis on rotating machinery. Providing technical input on piping systems and water/wastewater treatment equipment (screens, grit chambers, sludge handling, chemical dosing, disinfection units) will be considered a very strong advantage. Contributing to the review and coordination of static equipment (tanks, vessels, filters, heat exchangers) when required will be considered an advantage. Ensure compliance with project requirements, applicable standards (ASME, API, AWWA, ISO), and client expectations. Coordinate mechanical interfaces with process, structural, electrical, and I&C disciplines. Review vendor documentation for compliance with project specifications and participate in design reviews. Develop mechanical equipment layouts, general arrangement drawings, and piping designs (2D/3D). Support preparation of material requisitions, BOQs, and project documentation. Mentor junior engineers and provide technical guidance across the design team. Collaborate effectively with other AECOM offices and international project teams. Minimum Requirements: Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical Engineering or related field. Minimum 12 years of experience in mechanical design with strong focus on rotating equipment. Proven expertise in pumps, blowers, compressors, mixers, and aeration systems (mandatory). Experience in piping design and water/wastewater treatment facilities (very strong advantage). Knowledge of static equipment such as tanks, vessels, filters, heat exchangers (advantage). Hands-on field experience in installation supervision, testing, or commissioning of water or wastewater treatment plants is a strong advantage. Examples include participation in site inspections, equipment installation checks, commissioning of pumping systems, or troubleshooting of treatment plant mechanical systems. Proficiency in 2D and 3D modeling tools such as AutoCAD, MicroStation, AutoCAD Plant 3D, and Revit. Familiarity with international design standards and codes (ASME, AWWA, API, ISO). Excellent coordination and communication skills in English. Strong analytical, organizational, and problem-solving skills. Demonstrated ability to manage work within scope, schedule, and budget. Preferred Qualifications: § Experience working with US, UK, or Middle East water/wastewater design projects. § Chartered or licensed professional engineer status (or eligible). Team Collaboration § Self-motivated, responsible, and committed to quality. § Capable of working collaboratively in multidisciplinary teams. § Demonstrates initiative and ownership in delivering project deliverables. § Communicates clearly and efficiently with team members, other disciplines, and clients to ensure smooth coordination and understanding across all project stages.
