Job DescriptionJob Overview:The Senior Principal Project Controls Specialist requires an in-depth understanding of Project Controls concepts, theories, principles, and basic knowledge of other related disciplines. The Senior Principal Project Controls Specialist must be able to apply industry standards to improve effectiveness, provide guidance, and influence process improvements. The Senior Principal Project Controls Specialist is required to identify and resolve technical, operational, and organizational problems that negatively impact the organization. Decisions made by the Senior Principal Project Controls Specialist should be guided by internal policies, best practices, budgets, and the business plan.ResponsibilitiesKey Tasks and Responsibilities: Oversee and manage Project Controls activities throughout the EPFCI project lifecycle. Must have a thorough understanding of the contract requirements of the project they are assigned to. Provide planning supervision and direction. Directly work with the Project Manager / Director to provide visibility into the project schedule, its status, forecast completion dates, and provide alternatives in cases where mitigation is required. Develop and implement comprehensive cost control strategies, policies, and procedures in line with industry standards and best practices. Collaborate with Project Managers, Engineers, and Stakeholders to establish schedule and cost control baselines and ensure adherence to budgetary and contractual constraints. Monitor project expenditures, including material costs, labor, expenses, and subcontract cost to identify cost-saving opportunities and mitigate potential overruns. Conduct regular cost performance reviews and variance analyses to assess project financial health and provide actionable recommendations for cost optimization. Implement efficient cost-reporting systems and tools to provide accurate and timely financial information. Lead a team of Project Controls professionals by providing guidance, training, and performance evaluations to ensure high-quality deliverables and continuous improvement. Collaborate with procurement and contract management teams to evaluate and negotiate vendor contracts, ensuring cost-effectiveness and compliance with project requirements. Ensure adherence to McDermott systems and processes. Ensure that the project develops and maintains an overall integrated Level 3 schedule. Proactively manage the schedule; review and use late and look ahead reports to achieve the same. Progress the schedule on an ongoing basis and analyze the impact. Proactively manage all functional deliverables using the look-ahead process. Liaise with the Project Functional Managers and critical vendors to ensure that the EPFCI schedule is developed at the required level of detail that will enable proper management and execution of the scope of work. Ensure Risk & Opportunity strategies are communicated effectively and understood across the organization. Promote the active management and harvesting of opportunities across projects. Monitor for effectiveness and assist in the implementation of the Business Management System. Support duties related to Risk & Opportunity function, as directed by the Project Director. Execution Risk Management. Facilitate the risk management process for projects in execution supporting the mitigation of risks identified in the tender stage and continuous identification of risks along the project execution path. Roll out of project risk & opportunity management program to project team ensuring that roles, responsibilities, requirements, deliverables, and expectations are understood and agreed. Maintain a schedule of monthly engagements with the project team and management to ensure timely and accurate updating of the risk register and associated mitigation activities. Execute service agreement with the project manager to assure full alignment on how risk management will be applied to the project and any project-specific deliverables. Provide management with a strategic view of key risks impacting cost and schedule. Support monthly CSRA (cost & schedule risk analysis). Own and lead the implementation, enforcement, and verification of compliance with all McDermott policies and procedures. Ensure employees understand their responsibility and authority to effectively implement the requirements of all McDermott policies and procedures. Ensure the timely completion of all mandatory training by themselves and their teams. QualificationsEssential Qualifications and Education: Bachelor's Degree in Engineering, Construction Management, Business Administration, or a related field. Proven experience of at least 14+ years in cost control or project controls roles within the EPCI industry. Strong knowledge of project cost control methodologies, including Earned Value Management (EVM), cost forecasting, and risk analysis. Proficient in using industry-standard cost control software and tools (e.g., Primavera P6, SAP, Excel) to analyze data, generate reports, and support decision-making processes Excellent analytical skills with the ability to interpret complex financial data and provide actionable insights. Demonstrated leadership abilities, including experience in managing and developing an effective team. Communication and presentation skills, both written and spoken. Computer literate in Microsoft programs: Word, Access, PowerPoint, Excel, Project.
