Lead the delivery of high-value, complex corporate and commercial procurement at the heart of Council operations.Shape procurement strategies that deliver real value, transparency, and innovation.Be part of a high-performing, trusted procurement team that supports Hutt City Council's mission to create a thriving, connected community.About The RoleOur Procurement team plays a pivotal role in ensuring Hutt City Council's commercial activities are effective, ethical, and deliver value for money for our community.We're looking for an experienced Senior Procurement Specialist to lead the full procurement lifecycle for corporate and commercial initiatives. You'll develop sourcing strategies, negotiate complex contracts, and partner with business units to deliver outcomes that align with Council's strategic and operational goals. You'll also play a key role in strengthening Council's procurement maturity which includes mentoring colleagues, improving processes, and driving innovation in how we use data, technology, and supplier relationships to get the best results.In This Role, You WillLead and manage procurement activities for key corporate contracts and strategic suppliers.Provide high-level commercial and contract advice across the organisation.Develop and implement procurement and contract management frameworks that support best practice and alignment with Government Procurement Rules.Build trusted relationships with business leaders, suppliers, and stakeholders to deliver sustainable value.Use procurement data and analytics to identify trends, risks, and opportunities for improvement.Support the growth of procurement capability across Council through coaching and knowledge sharing.About YouYou're a commercially astute procurement professional who thrives in a complex, fast-moving environment. You understand the balance between value, compliance, and partnership — and you bring both the strategic insight and hands-on expertise to make a real impact.You Will BringA tertiary qualification in Procurement, Commerce, Law or a related discipline.At least 8 years' experience in strategic and operational procurement within large or complex organisations.Proven success leading high-value corporate or commercial procurement projects.Strong knowledge of Government Procurement Rules, probity, and contract law.Demonstrated experience in supplier and contract management, including negotiation and performance oversight.Excellent relationship management, influencing, and communication skills.Proficiency in procurement systems and the use of data and analytics to drive insight.About UsAt Hutt City Council our vision is to build a connected, resilient and inclusive city where all our people thrive.
