Senior Project Engineer – Infrastructure ProjectsPosition Title: Senior Project Engineer Reports to: Project Manager / Project Director Location: Sydne] Employment Type: Full-time Experience Level: 8–12 years (infrastructure project delivery experience required)Australian Residents onlyPosition OverviewThe Senior Project Engineer plays a key leadership role within the project delivery team, overseeing the planning, coordination, and execution of complex civil and infrastructure projects. The role ensures that design, procurement, construction, and commissioning activities are delivered safely, on time, within budget, and to required quality standards.This position is suited to an experienced engineer with a strong background in Australian infrastructure projects — particularly in transport, utilities, or energy sectors — who thrives in a dynamic, multidisciplinary environment.Key ResponsibilitiesProject Delivery & Engineering ManagementManage and coordinate multidisciplinary engineering and design inputs throughout all project phases.Support the Project Manager in planning, scheduling, and controlling project delivery activities.Review and approve design documentation, technical specifications, and construction methodologies.Oversee technical interfaces between design, procurement, and construction disciplines.Lead constructability reviews and identify opportunities for innovation, cost savings, and risk reduction.Commercial & Risk ManagementContribute to project budgeting, cost tracking, and forecasting.Manage subcontractor performance, scope changes, and variation claims.Assist in risk identification and mitigation planning during delivery and procurement.Stakeholder & Team LeadershipMentor and supervise junior project engineers and site engineers.Build collaborative relationships with internal teams, clients, contractors, and government stakeholders.Support stakeholder engagement, community impact mitigation, and environmental compliance.Quality, Safety & ComplianceEnsure compliance with WHS legislation, project safety plans, and quality management systems.Participate in audits, inspections, and HSEQ reporting.Drive a culture of continuous improvement and zero harm.Key Selection CriteriaEssential:Bachelor’s degree in Engineering, Construction Management, or related discipline.8–12 years’ experience in project engineering or project management within the Australian infrastructure sector.Demonstrated experience delivering large-scale transport, utilities, or energy projects.Strong knowledge of project controls, scheduling (e.g. Primavera P6 or MS Project), and contract management (e.g. GC21, AS4000, or NEC).Proven ability to coordinate design, procurement, and delivery teams in multidisciplinary settings.Excellent written and verbal communication skills, with a collaborative leadership style.Desirable:Chartered Professional Engineer (CPEng) or eligibility with Engineers Australia.Experience in government-funded infrastructure delivery models (e.g. D&C, Alliance, PPP).Experience with digital engineering, BIM, or construction planning tools.Understanding of sustainability and local community engagement principles.
