Job Description

We're seeking a Senior Robotics Software Engineer to join the core team building Spacer'sproduction-level robot. This is a highly hands-on, multidisciplinary role spanning the fullautonomy stack - from raw sensor data through perception, localization, planning, and control.You'll be a technical self-starter who thrives with broad ownership, can make sound architecturaldecisions independently, and is energized by building real systems on physical hardware inunstructured environments. As an early hire, you'll shape our engineering culture and leave alasting mark on how our robots think, see, and move.Spacer Robotics is building autonomous, non-humanoid robotic systems to construct infrastructure in extreme environments—from lunar bases to next-gen terrestrial job sites. Our vision is to disrupt the $16 trillion global construction industry by pioneering a new Deep Tech philosophy that blends robotics, AI, and systems engineering at the frontier.Location & Relocation: Please note that this is an on-site role located in the San Francisco Bay Area, USA. Relocation will be required. Spacer Robotics is open to supporting relocation and visa processes for qualified candidates.About You: 4+ years of professional software engineering experience.Strong C++ (performance-focused) and solid Python skills.Hands-on experience with ROS and physical robotic platforms.Experience integrating sensors (cameras, LiDAR, IMUs, encoders).Background in motion planning, kinematics, or control systems.Comfortable debugging across hardware, firmware, and software.Excited to work hands-on with real robots in unstructured environments.What You’ll Do:4+ years of professional software engineering experience.Strong C++ (performance-focused) and solid Python skills.Hands-on experience with ROS and physical robotic platforms.Experience integrating sensors (cameras, LiDAR, IMUs, encoders).Background in motion planning, kinematics, or control systems.Comfortable debugging across hardware, firmware, and software.Excited to work hands-on with real robots in unstructured environments.Willing to relocate to the San Francisco Bay Area.What You’ll Do:Develop and maintain our ROS-based software for real-time motion and coordination.Build and optimize embedded C++ systems for low-latency, reliable operation.Integrate cameras, LiDAR, IMUs, and encoders into robust perception and feedback loops.Work closely with hardware engineers to debug, calibrate, and optimize the full robotic system.Implement motion planning, kinematics, and control algorithms.Build production-ready monitoring, diagnostics, and update infrastructure for robots operating in demanding outdoor construction environment.The US base salary range for this full-time position is between $140,000 - $230,000 annually. The pay offered for this position may vary based on several individual factors, including job-related knowledge, skills, and experience.Competitive equity, depending on experience and role level. As one of our early engineering hires, your equity stake will be meaningful and reflect the impact you'll have on building our technology from the ground up.The total compensation package may also include additional components/benefits depending on the specific role. This information will be shared if an employment offer is extended.
