Senior Technical Underwriter

DescriptionAXA Ireland is seeking an experienced Senior Technical Underwriter dealing with our Commercial Property and Casualty business.Reporting to the Commercial Technical Underwriting Manager, you will support the implementation of underwriting standards in AXA Ireland as an expert in the relevant classes of business in line with stated risk appetite.At AXA we work smart, empowering our people to balance their time between home and the office in a way that works best for them, their team and our customers. You'll work majority of your working week away from home. Away from home means either attendance at one of our office locations, visiting clients or attending industry events.What You'll Be DoingDocumenting of risk appetite for each class of business and continuous review of sameProduce reports with clear findings and recommendations on products, underwriting footprint and market opportunities as requestedIdentifying new product and/or process opportunities to improve products and strengthen Underwriting rules to reduce claims and/or improve overall customer experienceResponsibility for smaller non material classes of business/product/Scheme offeringsReviewing and developing our Product wordings to adapt to changes in the trading environment and AXA Group requirementsEngaging with our Reinsurance colleagues and providers to maintain the required level of coverageEngaging with our colleagues in AXA Group and other AXA entities to share expertise and leverage the capabilities of the organisation as a wholeUse portfolio analysis to identify areas of concern and development of action plansDevelop and deliver Underwriting training programmes to sales and Underwriting staff on product features and acceptance rules, rating and risk appetiteWork with Trading Underwriting and Claims teams to ensure effective implementation of Underwriting standardsAct as business lead or underwriting subject matter representative on cross functional projectsAct as a point of referral for complex technical queries from staff in sales, claims, AXA Legal Services, broker partners, digital, marketing and other underwriting staffQualificationsWhat we're looking for:A minimum of 6 years' experience in a risk acceptance and rating environment, with a sound knowledge of market trends is essential.CIP Qualified essential, with MDI or ACII desirable Proven experience in decision making on a wide range of technical underwriting scenarios .A proven ability to develop excellent relationships, maintaining consistently strong focus on professional standards and results, and a track record of delivery in technical underwriting. Strong negotiation, influencing and interpersonal skillsPragmatic decision maker with good analytical and numerical reasoningSound understanding of insurance market and specifically our suite of Commercial products.Experience of working in teams and successful record of deliveryExcellent relationship management skills and experience of building successful long-term relationships both internal & external. Strong customer advocate with clear understanding of the impact of Underwriting standards on customer journeys and customer facing staffThis role is an allocated Controlled Function under Fitness & Probity Regime, which means the successful candidate will be subject to an enhanced level of background screening requirements.
