Senior Transformer Engineer

Job Description

We are seeking a Transformer Design Engineer to develop and document custom transformer designs for OEM applications. This role involves creating build instructions, bills of materials, schematics, and process sheets, while ensuring compliance with customer requirements and industry standards. The engineer will collaborate with cross-functional teams, support testing and validation, and provide technical expertise to drive product quality, efficiency, and cost optimization.Please note: This is not a remote position. It is open to all qualified candidates across Canada with the potential to relocate to the Greater Toronto Area.Key Responsibilities And AccountabilitiesDevelop new designs of dry type LV transformers up to 2MVAImprove performance of products, standardize components, and reduce material cost of products.Establish and lead the company’s CTO process from the ground upDevelop and maintain configuration datasets (options, rules, dependencies)Define and enforce standards for configuration managementCollaborate with Sales, Marketing, and Engineering to define standardized optionsPartner with Product Marketing and Engineering to align customer requirements with feasible optionsProvide Sales with configuration tools to distinguish CTO vs. ETO workOwn reduction of validation loops by preventing misquotingRationalize and simplify product optionsPrepare the CTO framework for transition to CPQ systemsEssential Qualifications, Knowledge And SkillsElectrical or Electromechanical Engineering degree, ideally specializing in distribution and power transformers. P.Eng or eligible preferred.Minimum 5 years experience with design of transformers or comparable electrical productsFamiliar with Certification requirements (UL, CSA, Nema, ISO CE etc Standard)Comfortable working within plant and office environmentsIn-depth theoretical and practical knowledge and experience in transformer design and manufacturing, particularly in air cooled- (natural and forced air), LV Dry Type transformer design, manufacturing, and testing. Other related power and distribution transformer skills are an asset.Recent experience working in product development and/or R&D with power products (power electronics, power distribution systems, switchgear etc.) in a factory environment.Rectifier duty and harmonics design experience is a plus.Phase-shift design experience is a plus.Proactively seek, develop, and implement initiatives to cost-effectively improve the transformer design, performance, and productionUpon request, we will provide reasonable accommodation for disabilities to support participation of candidates in all aspects of the recruitment process.
