Nelson City Council is seeking a highly skilled Senior Transport Planner to join our Infrastructure team and play a pivotal role in delivering sustainable, safe, and efficient transport solutions.About the role | Kō tēnei tūranga mahiAs a Senior Transport Planner, you will help lead the development of transport policies, strategies, and projects that shape Nelson's future, providing expert technical advice and working collaboratively to create safe, sustainable, and efficient transport networks.  As a Unitary Authority we also oversee public transport planning and operations.  Experience in public transport planning would be preferred.You will:Provide specialist technical advice on land transport, planning, and transport matters such as parking/active transport strategies etcDevelop and oversee business cases to support capital and operational investmentSupporting the team with resource consents applications, bylaws, regional land and PT transport plansRepresent transport at Council and Regional Transport CommitteesMentor and support other staff, sharing your knowledge and fostering professional growthEngage with iwi, community stakeholders, and central government on key transport issuesAbout you | Ko ngā pūmanawa ōuYou will bring:A relevant tertiary qualification (Engineering, Planning, or similar)Proven experience in transport planning, strategic development and policy analysisA knowledge of transport modelling, data analysis, GIS, and RMA processesExcellent communication and relationship-building skills, with the ability to engage across Council, community, and governmentStrong time management, judgement, and leadership qualitiesA collaborative approach and commitment to delivering positive outcomes for NelsonWhat we offer | Ko ngā painga mōuAt Nelson City Council, you'll be part of a supportive and forward-thinking team, working on projects that directly impact how our community lives, works, and moves.
