As a Data Centre Technician, you will have a shared responsibility in the delivery of the contracted services and projects within customer Data Centres. You will be accountable for the completion and refinement of activities on the operational checklists, referencing and updating documentation and procedures.

You are required to undertake and maintain ITIL functions such as Incident, Change, Problem and Service Management You will oversee, train, and approve the work of junior team members and third parties, particularly regarding project installs, power, and network cabling. You will be required to undertake duties across any customer or third-party location within the UK in-line with your competency and the Serverfarm portfolio offerings, including being available on call to attend site at short notice and within 1 hour when required.

This role is eligible for overtime pay and on-call pay as well as mileage reimbursement for on call, travel duties.

Key AccountabilitiesProviding security within customer Data CentresAligning to and undertaking customer ITIL Functions, such as Change and IncidentInputting into data centre management systems and ensuring accuracy and completeness of data to enable space, power and network management and reportingSupervising; third parties, customers, peers, and subordinatesOperating within defined Service Level Agreements (SLA)Leading IT equipment moves, installations, removals, and patchingWorking with third party suppliers to ensure best practice and efficiencyUndertaking Health & Safety audits and risk reporting, ensuring personal careCarrying out IT asset audits and maintaining database accuracyMaintaining and developing initiatives to increase service availability across all sitesAligning with, adhering to, and improving documented process in line with ISO27001Landlord areas, Cleaning, Waste managementUtilities and communications infrastructureMaintain support and optimise capacity & utilisation of rack spaceRequired SkillsMinimum of 5 years’ experience working in a Data Centre with proven success in delivering customer requirements in a critical technology environmentCan work from a complex High-Level Design (HLD) or Patching Schedule unsupervisedWorking additional hours may be required in this roleBeing on call will be required within this roleEvidence of self-management and alignment with ever-changing prioritiesProven ability to undertake and manage tasks to tight deadlines with confidence, working alone or as part of a teamDemonstrable desire to proactively meet and exceed customer expectationsProven understanding of security measures, risks, and enhancementsAble to articulate an ability to develop and maintain productive and fruitful relationships with peers, managers, and customersEvidence of good written and oral communication skills, tenacity and working to a high level of accuracyAble to present information clearly, with effective results using various techniques including MS PowerPoint, Word and Excel and messaging tools such as Outlook and TeamsA track record of good teamwork, leadership and influencing others to support your ideas and improvement initiativesProficient in the use of testing equipment, including OTDR and FlukeUnderstand the basic elements of IT network architecture, including the range of cable types, ancillary networking devices and installation practicesIn depth understanding of Health and Safety with an awareness of The Health and Safety at work ActGood operational understanding of Data Centres and IT environmentsGCSE level passes in Mathematics and EnglishWorking at other datacentres may also be a requirementPreferred SkillsExperience in using StruxureWare DCE/DCO & TrackIT toolsets, would be beneficialExperience of managing projects including financial and resource elementsExposure to contracts operating in multi premisesExperience of working with Customers who provide critical National InfrastructureThe listed salary range for this position is an estimate based on the competitive job market.
