Position SummaryUnder the direction of the Senior Superintendent, install, maintain and repair commercial and domestic refrigeration systems utilizing knowledge of refrigeration theory and computation of loads and capacities; install refrigerant piping involving hand soldering; work with sub-zero refrigeration involving two stage and cascade systems; maintain, repair and overhaul air conditioning refrigeration systems of the reciprocating, centrifugal and absorption types, including electrical (open and hermetic) motors and steam turbines, and their respective controls and safety devices and related equipment such as pumps and cooling towers; operate, maintain and repair air moving, heating, cooling, humidification, distribution and filtering equipment and systems involving electronic and pneumatic modulating thermostats, humidistats, ductstats and pressure and volume controls; and may also maintain and repair high and low pressure boilers and their combustion and control systems.Salary & CompensationUCLA provides a full pay range. Visit UC Benefit package to discover benefits that start on day one, and UC Total Compensation Estimator to calculate the total compensation value with benefits.QualificationsKnowledge and experience in installation, maintenance, and repair of commercial and domestic refrigeration systems, electrical motors, steam turbines, their respective controls, safety devices and related equipment (pumps, cooling towers). Ability to adjust and repair major and auxiliary equipment. (Required)Working knowledge of water treatment methods (for the prevention of scale and corrosion), electrical circuitry, and electric motors. Thorough knowledge and experience in running refrigerant piping including hand soldering. (Required)Detailed knowledge in the operation, maintenance, and repair of steam piping systems, control valves, coils, radiators, convectors, and condensate return pumps, piping, and meters. (Required)Working knowledge of refrigeration theory and ability to compute loads and capacities; skill in modifying or adapting mechanical building systems for efficient and economical operation in order to complete reports and/or make recommendations. (Required)Detailed knowledge and experience in the operation, maintenance, and repair of air moving, heating, cooling, humidification, distribution, and filtering equipment and systems involving electronic/pneumatic modulating thermostats, humidistats, ducstats and pressure/volume controls (Required)Working knowledge of psychrometrics, duct design, and experience in air balancing and experience in the operation, maintenance, and repair of high/low pressure boilers and their combustion and safety controls. (Required)Ability to read and interpret schematic drawings, reading technical instructions related to the trade in order to comprehend written work instructions, equipment operating instructions, and/or other documents related to the job functions. (Required)Ability to evaluate extent of repair, plan appropriate corrective measures including necessary tools, materials, and craftsperson’s to accomplish the task. (Required)Ability to operate trade-related hand and power tools, including achievement of operational level skills. (Required)Working knowledge of UBC, OSHA, ADA requirements as they relate to the function, Ability to recognize discrepancies of ADA and Fire/Life/Safety codes at each job and report to supervisor. (Required)Working knowledge of basic algebra concepts and principles sufficient to understand and apply basic trade formulas. Working knowledge of personal computer and software sufficient to review computerized building and maintenance management systems. (Required)Ability to work independently and follow through on assignments. (Required)Education, Licenses, Certifications & Personal Affiliations Must possess, upon hire, and maintain a valid CA noncommercial Class C License in accordance with the California (CA) Department of Motor Vehicles.
