Job Description

Company descriptionThe AIMS lab at Eindhoven University of Technology (TU/e) specializes in research of AI models for autonomous UxV systems equipped with multi-modal sensors. Our expertise includes the AI analysis of data from RGB, thermal, depth, LiDAR, acoustic, sonar, and radar sensors. By integrating these sensors into unified suites, we create capabilities akin to human sensory systems to achieve comprehensive situational awareness. This is essential for our industrial partners operating in fields such as public safety and security, smart cities, defense, infrastructure inspection, and intelligent transportation.Role descriptionThese are 5 full-time, on-site PhD positions at Eindhoven University of Technology, Netherlands. As a PhD candidate specializing in AI fusion of multi-modal data, you will contribute to novel research in building AI methods for multi-modal sensor systems. Your day-to-day tasks may include designing and training AI models, conducting experiments, analyzing data, collaborating with interdisciplinary teams, and publishing research findings in high-impact conferences (CVPR, ICCV, AAAI). You will also engage with industry partners to align your research with real-world challenges. The scientific challenges for these 5 PhDs:Detection of defects in bridges and viaducts using X-ray, LiDAR, visual and acoustic data captured from UAV.Creation of dynamic 4D digital twins of bridges.Enabling UAV stability and navigation in highly turbulent environments.Detection of defects in underwater infrastructure (pipes, cables, windmill platform foundations) - sonar, LiDAR, visual sensors.Recognition of underwater dynamics: submarines, divers, fish, mammals.Acoustic analysis of underwater sounds - vessels, migratory mammals.Mapping the AI models on edge devices (e.g. Orin).QualificationsCreative and goal-oriented mindset with a commitment to advance the SOTA in AI and sensingMaster's degree in Data Science, EE or Computer Science from EU countries.Strong background in AI / machine learning Experience with sensing technologies for autonomous vehicles, e.g. SLAMGood skills in scientific writing and communication, and a proven ability to publish researchAbility to work collaboratively in interdisciplinary teams and with industrial partnersRestriction: Due to the dual-use project nature, applicants from Russia, China and Iran will not be considered.
