Job Description

Job DescriptionSheladia Associates is seeking a professional International Environmental Specialist to join our team in Guyana!Individual will support our Client on a Design Review and Construction Supervision Consultancy Services Road Improvement project. Duties will includeReview environmental protection and disaster risk mitigation measures to ensure that every reasonable action has been taken to protect life, environment, and property, and monitor that traffic circulation is maintained properly by the Contractors, according to the approved traffic management plans, at all times.

Report problems encountered or anticipated relating to the unforeseen direct environmental impact of construction activities at borrow sites, concrete or asphalt plants, highway sections, and construction camps and immediately advise the Contractors on measures to be taken to mitigate impactsEnsure compliance with the list of equipment and operation procedures to meet environmental specifications (protecting vegetation and natural fauna, controlling erosion, drainage blockage, noise, air quality, soil and water contamination, disposal of toxic and non-toxic materials, highway safety of motorised and non-motorised traffic, etc. )Certify compliance with the most updated version of the ESA/ESMP, requirements by national law (e.

g. , environmental permits and license) and adequate coordination between LRP implementation and construction works (no pending liabilities), before issuing a Completion Certificate or Provisional CertificateProduce progress reportsQualificationsBSc. Degree in Environmental Studies8 years of general experience and at least 5 years of experience in the sectorMust have experience in implementing and/or supervising environmental assessments and management plans. Particularly, experience with environmental and social policies of multilateral banks would be preferableMust have worked in a similar position as environmental specialist on at least ONE major highway project of similar nature.

Prior work experience in Guyana and Caribbean or other Latin American countries is preferable. Fluency in both spoken and written English language is a requirement. Additional InformationAll your information will be kept confidential according to EEO guidelines.
