It has been working in Afghanistan since 1998 and is presently managing long-term and short-term humanitarian and development programs to the people in need in countries around the world. SFL is currently operational in Afghanistan, Liberia, South Sudan, Senegal and Tajikistan. Our Headquarters is located in Minnetonka, MN and funded by multiple donors such as BPRM, USG, USDA and WFP. SFL has rich experience and provides assistance in the following areas; Agriculture Development, Food Security, livelihood and emergency, Shelter and Population Settlement, Application of Microcredit, Infrastructure Development and Health and Nutrition.

Shelter for Life (SFL), in partnership with FAO, is implementing, the Emergency Food Security Project (OSRO/AFG/150/WBK) and the Afghanistan Emergency Food Security Project (GCP/AFG/146/UK) aim to strengthen food security and resilience among vulnerable households in Parwan Province. These projects respond to acute food insecurity caused by prolonged drought, economic instability, and limited agricultural productivity. By providing immediate food assistance, agricultural inputs, and capacity-building support, the projects seek to enhance livelihoods, improve nutrition, and reduce the vulnerability of smallholder farmers and at-risk communities, thereby contributing to overall stability and resilience in the provinceJob Summary:

The Agronomist Officer will play a key technical role in the implementation of the Emergency Food Security Project (OSRO/AFG/150/WBK) and the Afghanistan Emergency Food Security Project (GCP/AFG/146/UK) in Parwan Province. The position will provide agricultural expertise, technical support, and field-based guidance to ensure effective distribution and utilization of agricultural inputs, including certified wheat seeds, summer crop packages, and milking kits.

The Agronomist Officer will be responsible for delivering practical training to beneficiaries on improved cultivation practices, crop management, and sustainable agricultural techniques, with the overall aim of improving food security, enhancing household resilience, and increasing productivity among vulnerable farming communities. Shelter for Life implements safe and PSEA-sensitive human resources practicesand processes throughout recruitment, contracting, and performance management to ensure the safety and well-being of all staff and beneficiaries. Shelter for Life has zero-tolerance policy on Sexual Exploitation and Abuse (SEA). Key Responsibility: 1.

Provide technical guidance on summer and vegetable crop agro-technics, including soil preparation, seed handling, and cultivation, irrigation, and pest/disease management. 2. Facilitate training and demonstrations on pre-harvest and post-harvest practices to improve crop productivity and quality. 3. Support climate-resilient approaches such as integrated pest management, agroforestry, composting, and bio-fertilizer use. 4. Conduct field monitoring, provide on-site advice to farmers, and ensure proper adoption of improved practices. 5. Prepare technical plans, report, and maintain accurate records of training and field activities in line with project objectives. 6.

Provide technical agronomic support to ensure effective crop production, adoption of improved seeds and fertilizers, and integration of climate-smart agricultural practices among project beneficiaries7. Provide technical guidance on wheat and summer crop cultivation practices. 8. Support land preparation, planting, irrigation, fertilization, and pest/disease control. 9. Conduct field demonstrations and Farmer Field Schools (FFS). 10. Promote climate-smart and improved agricultural practices. 11. Ensure effective use of distributed agricultural inputs by farmers. 12. Facilitate awareness sessions on crop diversification and soil fertility. 13. Provide tailored advice to smallholder farmers, women, and vulnerable groups. 14. Train community mobilizers, facilitators and farmer groups to strengthen local capacity. 15.

Conduct regular field visits to monitor crop progress and provide solutions. 16. Collect field data on seed usage, crop performance, and yields. 17. Establish and monitor demonstration plots for improved technologies. 18. Coordinate closely with Project Manager, FAO staff, and local authorities. 19. Liaise with extension agents, input suppliers, and other stakeholders. 20. Prepare and submit regular technical and field progress reports. 21. Document beneficiary feedback, lessons learned, and success stories. 22. Contribute agricultural analysis to the final project report. 23. Ensure compliance with environmental, safeguarding, and gender policies. 24. Promote womens participation and gender inclusivity in project activities. 25.

Perform any other duties assigned by the Project Manager in line with project objectives and organizational policies. Qualification/Requirements: Bachelors degree in Agriculture. 4 to 5 years relevant work experience in the field of Agriculture with NGOs, INGOs or UN agencies. Computer skills at the operator level, especially with MS Office packages. Fluency in English and Dari and/or Pashto, both written and spoken. Ability or experience in the field of community driven development projects monitoringHigh attention to detail, effective time management skills, strong work ethic, a willingness to learn new skills, and the ability to be a self-starter.

Having strong report writing skills. Experience in planning, reporting and budgeting. Good communication skill and able to pass the massage/questions in local languages to the respondents. Have good interpersonal skills and ability to plan work. Supervisory, team worker, analytical, and troubleshooting skills. Regional and cultural knowledge of areas of SFL field operations in AfghanistanWillingness to work long hours when requiredAbility and willingness to travel to the project sites and outside of duty station within Afghanistan and adjust to the SFL environment as frequently as requiredHonest, proactive, well mannered, and must share values of SFL.
