Our SHEQ professionals provide competence advice and assurance around Health & Safety, Occupational Health & Wellbeing, and Integrated Management System (IMS) compliance.As the SHEQ Manager, you will be partnering with your site operational team, as well as your Head of SHEQ, to implement and manage Gist’s Integrated Management System (IMS) as well as the functional strategy. partner with the General Manager and wider leadership team on all SHEQ matters related to your sites, including your local stakeholders and suppliersProvide competent SHEQ advice to ensure compliance at your designated sites with relevant legal and IMS standardsFacilitate the implementation of the SHEQ Strategy in partnership with the operations ensuring initiatives and alignment with organisational goals and objectivesReview accident trends, hazard reporting data, dashboard information and identify required corrective action or emerging risk in partnership with the leadership teams.Create and drive collaborative working to implement site specific SHEQ Improvement PlansUndertake SHEQ management system audits/inspections, as requiredAssume the role as lead incident investigator and assist site management in incident investigations ensuring relevant key stakeholders are involved, and suitable corrective actions are implementedCreate and provide accurate reports on key issues and progress against the Gist SHEQ Strategy and SHEQ Action Plans for stakeholders and senior managementPartner with cross functional teams on SHEQ-related matters, in order to drive a standard and consistent approach to SHEQMentor and coach operational managers to ensure SHEQ compliance and improvementManage and support on the launch and implementation of SHEQ wider team project initiatives, ensuring that operational sites are compliantOversee and manage the applicable training requirements to ensure consistent and appropriate training is delivered effectively by site trainersManage emergency planning and arrangements in partnership with operational teams, including testing of emergency plans to ensure readiness for any eventuality and to align with our legal obligationsProvide coaching and assistance to the site management teams to enable them to access the relevant data from the relevant online reporting systemsMonitor all IMS module inspections and reviews, ensuring that any corrective actions are raised and owned by the site leadership team.Implement and share good practices and key learnings to drive consistency and improvement in SHEQ performanceFacilitate and manage local insurance claimsAct as the primary contact for external agencies, ensuring compliance with regulatory requirementsOversee and create operational documentation including a Safety Statement for each siteDrive a culture of continuous improvement.In addition to dedicated Business Unit activities, you will be expected to:Carry out independent IMS assurance audits at other sitesProvide additional SHEQ guidance and support to other areas of the businessWork collaboratively with the SHEQ function and attending key SHEQ meetingsSupport the wider operational teams to help driver a better Gist culture and employee experience where everyone goes home safe and well to their families every dayStay abreast of regulatory developments, industry trends, and SHEQ management best practices relevant to the logistics and supply chain industry, ensuring that Gist remains compliant with applicable regulations.Maintain continuing professional developmentWho You AreNEBOSH Diploma or Equivalent and minimum Certified member of IOSHDemonstrate a solid understanding of SHEQ principles and practicesProven experience in a health and safety management role within a medium or high-risk industry, indicating a proven track record of effectively managing SHEQ programsExhibit excellent communication skills, both written and verbal, enabling you to convey information clearly and persuasively to stakeholders at all levels of the organisationStrong interpersonal skills and the ability to engage and influence stakeholders at all levels, fostering collaboration and driving alignment towards SHEQ objectivesThrive in a fast-paced, operationally challenging environment, demonstrating resilience and adaptability in managing competing priorities and tight deadlinesExperience in accident and incident management and investigation skills, allowing you to effectively analyse incidents, identify root causes, and implement corrective actions to prevent reoccurrenceSelf-starter and driven to deliver results with minimal day-to-day guidanceDesirableKnowledge of the Logistics/Distribution sector including familiarity with materials handling equipment (MHE), enabling you to address industry-specific SHEQ challenges effectivelyInternal Auditor CertificationKnowledge and experience in ISO standardsChartered membership of IOSH (or working towards)Why Gist?At Gist we are united by our core values; with safety and people at the heart of everything do, we are progressive, accountable, collaborative, and ethical.Our objective is to establish a performance-focused environment that is fair and inclusive, where everyone can develop, and connect meaningfully to their manager, the Gist vision, and M&S.
