Shop planning Supervisor

Job Description

Job PurposeTo lead and supervise planning activities for both the Machine Shop and Assembly Shop, ensuring effective scheduling, material availability, workflow coordination, and timely execution of jobs. The role is responsible for aligning shop output with delivery commitments, optimizing resources, and coordinating between machining, assembly, quality, and supply chain teams.Key Responsibilities Production Planning & SchedulingDevelop and supervise detailed daily, weekly, and monthly production plans for both machine and assembly shops.Allocate jobs to machines and assembly lines based on priority, capacity, and resource availability.Review drawings, BOMs, routing and monitor job progress using load/capacity balancing techniques. Shop Execution SupervisionCoordinate with machine shop supervisor and assembly teams for real-time progress tracking.Resolve bottlenecks like machine breakdowns, rework issues, manpower shortages, or missing parts.Adjust schedules in response to breakdowns, urgent orders, or material delays.Prioritize jobs based on project milestones and dispatch commitments. Resource & Material CoordinationEnsure availability of raw materials (casting, forging, fabricated components) bought-out components, tools, jigs, and fixtures as per plan.Raise and follow up on material requisitions and shortages.Coordinate with stores and procurement teams to avoid stoppages. Team & Stakeholder ManagementDrive daily and weekly cross-functional review meetings on plan adherence.Supervise junior planners responsible for job tracking, SAP updates, and documentation.Liaise with Production, QA/QC and maintenance teams for smooth operations. Monitoring, Reporting & DocumentationTrack plan vs. actual performance; identify variances and implement corrective actions.Distribution of manufacturing drawing/process sheet/Check sheet/Control Card to respective departments.Maintain visual management tools like load charts, WIP record, and backlog trackers.Generate MIS reports on key KPIs such as on-time completion, efficiency, and utilization and delay analysis. Compliance & ImprovementIdentify areas to improve throughput, reduce idle time, and optimize shop capacity.Ensure adherence to safety, quality, and ISO procedures during planning and execution.Support implementation of lean manufacturing, 5S, TPM and Kaizen initiatives
