Job Title: Sleep Technician (Polysomnographic Technologist) Department: Respiratory Reports to: Respiratory Manager, Shift: Full-Time, Night Shift (Primary)Position SummaryWe are seeking a skilled and compassionate Sleep Technician to join our accredited sleep disorders center. The Sleep Technician is responsible for performing comprehensive polysomnographic (PSG) testing and analysis, as well as other sleep disorder diagnostic and therapeutic procedures. This role is critical in helping physicians diagnose and treat a variety of sleep disorders, such as sleep apnea, narcolepsy, and insomnia.The ideal candidate will be technically proficient, detail-oriented, and dedicated to providing outstanding patient care in an overnight setting.Key ResponsibilitiesPatient Preparation: Welcome and prepare patients for sleep studies, explaining procedures clearly to alleviate anxiety and ensure cooperation. Obtain and review patient history, consent forms, and study protocols.Equipment Setup: Prepare, calibrate, and maintain all diagnostic equipment, including polysomnographs, EEG/EOG/EMG/ECG monitors, respiratory effort belts, pulse oximeters, and video/audio recording devices.Polysomnographic Testing: Apply electrodes and sensors to the patient according to established (AASM) standards. Perform and monitor overnight sleep studies (PSG), Multiple Sleep Latency Tests (MSLT), and Maintenance of Wakefulness Tests (MWT).Patient Monitoring: Continuously monitor the patient's sleep stages, respiratory patterns, cardiac rhythms, and other physiological data throughout the study. Intervene as necessary to ensure patient safety and comfort (e.g., repositioning sensors, addressing patient needs).Data Acquisition & Analysis: Ensure signal quality and artifact-free data collection. Document all clinical observations, procedural changes, and significant events. Score sleep stages and clinical events (such as apneas, hypopneas, and limb movements) in accordance in accordance with AASM scoring guidelines.Therapeutic Interventions: Initiate and titrate therapeutic interventions as prescribed, including Continuous Positive Airway Pressure (CPAP), Bi-level Positive Airway Pressure (BiPAP), and supplemental oxygen.Patient Education: Educate patients on the proper use and maintenance of PAP therapy equipment and principles of good sleep hygiene.Reporting & Documentation: Generate accurate and comprehensive reports of sleep study results for physician review and interpretation. Maintain meticulous patient records and study logs.Equipment Maintenance: Clean, disinfect, and perform routine maintenance on all sleep study equipment. Troubleshoot and report any equipment malfunctions.Skills and QualificationsRequired:Bachelor degree in Nursing or RT.Certification as a Registered Polysomnographic Technologist (RPSGT) by the Board of Registered Polysomnographic Technologists (BRPT).(Will consider candidates who are registry-eligible or hold a Certified Polysomnographic Technician (CPSGT) credential with the requirement to obtain RPSGT certification within 12 months of hire.)Current Basic Life Support (BLS) certification.Strong technical aptitude with the ability to operate and troubleshoot complex medical equipment.Excellent interpersonal and communication skills, with a compassionate and professional bedside manner.Keen attention to detail and strong analytical skills for accurate data scoring.Ability to work independently and make critical decisions in an overnight setting.Proficiency with computers and electronic medical record (EMR) systems.Preferred:Associate's degree from an accredited program in Sleep Technology, Respiratory Therapy, or a related health sciences field.At least one (1) year of experience working as a technologist in a sleep disorders center.Experience with pediatric sleep studies.Physical RequirementsAbility to work overnight shifts (e.g., 7:00 PM – 7:00 AM).Ability to stand, walk, and sit for extended periods.Must be able to lift, carry, and position patients or equipment weighing up to 50 lbs.Requires manual dexterity for precise application of sensors and operation of equipment.
