Job DescriptionThe Westchester Casualty Senior Claims Director a role focused on the technical claim handling for insureds nationwide. In this role you will handle first-party and third-party litigated and non-litigated pollution and general liability claims.Duties Include, But Are Not Limited ToProvides outstanding customer service and works well with the insured and broker in the adjustment of complex high exposure primary and excess litigated and non-litigated contractors pollution liability, first party pollution liability, professional liability, general liability and construction (including NY Labor Law) claims. Analyzes coverage and communicates coverage positions, as warranted, under direction of supervisor and coverage unit.Conducts, coordinates, and directs investigation into loss facts and extent of first party and third-party damages.Directs and closely monitors assignments to experts and defense counsel.Evaluates information on coverage, liability, and damages to determine the extent of exposure to the insured and the company.Sets reserves within authority or makes claim recommendations concerning reserve changes to supervisor.Reports to reinsurers and facilitates the prompt collection of reinsurance on those matters where they are accountable.Travels to conferences, mediations, and trials as necessary.QualificationsBachelor’s degree required. Master’s degree and/or JD preferredA minimum of 5+ years experience handling casualty claims with emphasis on Environmental claimsExperience in successfully handling severity exposure claims Strong background and demonstrated ability in dealing with significant coverage mattersExtensive knowledge of claims handling concepts, practices, and procedures Ability and willingness to travel as neededAbility to make prompt, intelligent decisions based upon detailed analysis of complex issuesDemonstrated strong relational skills particularly in adverse or high-pressure situationsAnalytical, Detailed OrientedCustomer focus – responsive with an appropriate sense of urgencyStrong Communication Skills - including the ability to listen effectively; to confidently and diplomatically express opinions and voice concerns with other team members; and to present superior written communication to varied audiences.Excellent Interpersonal Skills: Ability to establish trust and effective working relationships with others on an external and internal basis.Strong Negotiation and Presentation SkillsAbility to work collaboratively, independently and as part of a team.Ability to MultitaskAbility to adjust and adapt in an ever-changing environmentTechnically proficientCommitted to high standards of behavior and performanceThe pay range for the role is $105700 to $179700. The specific offer will depend on an applicant’s skills and other factors. This role may also be eligible to participate in a discretionary annual incentive program.
