About the RoleAssistant Head of EnglishFull-Time | Commencing Term IV, 2025St Aloysius’ College is seeking to appoint an experienced or aspiring educational leader to the role of Assistant Head of English, commencing at the beginning of Term IV, 2025. This is a full-time position and represents a significant opportunity for a passionate English educator to step into a leadership role within a dynamic and well-resourced department.
The successful candidate will either have leadership experience or demonstrate clear potential and enthusiasm to lead initiatives, mentor colleagues, contribute to the development of educational programs and resources, and foster a collaborative faculty culture in the pursuit of academic excellence. They will be committed to innovative, student-centred pedagogy and have the ability to design and deliver engaging curriculum that meets the academic and social needs of boys and young men. Working closely with the Head of English, the Assistant Head of English will:
Support the planning, development, and implementation of teaching programs and resources;Contribute to curriculum innovation and review;Contribute and support department initiatives and projects;Foster high academic standards and a passion of English across all year levels;Support the professional growth of faculty members;Assist in the strategic direction and vision of the English Department, aligned with the mission of the College. Commitment to the mission of Catholic education of boys in the Jesuit tradition;An understanding of the educational needs of boys and young men;Demonstrated excellence in teaching English across Years 7-10, with experience in teaching English Advanced and Extension 1 essential;Ability to create a positive, supportive and engaging classroom environment that meets the academic, social and emotional needs of all students;Demonstrated capacity to co-lead diverse teams and drive strategic initiatives;Demonstrated collegial leadership – this could have been demonstrated in a variety of capacities within a school setting;Experience in planning and pursing strategic outcomes at departmental level or in another capacity within a school setting;Demonstrated capacity to lead projects and mentor staff, particularly in the area of innovative, student-centred pedagogy;Ability to design, implement and evaluate curriculum collaboratively in accordance with College and NESA syllabus guidelines and outcomes;Proven ability to ensure teaching and learning activities reflect contemporary pedagogy, including the ability to integrate an inquiry-based approach to teaching and learning and differentiation strategies;Understanding of, and ability to use data to analyse, report on and manage student progress, and to report to parents in a variety of ways that keep them regularly and fully informed of their children’s progress;Strong commitment to safeguarding principles;Your ApplicationFor more information about the College, this opportunity, selection criteria and the application process please visit the College website:
