Job SummaryThis position is located in the District of Columbia at the Department of Small and Local Business Development (DSLBD), supporting the Innovation and Equitable Development Division (Inno. ED). DSLBD supports the development, economic growth, and retention of District-based businesses and promotes economic development throughout the District’s commercial corridors. The Inno. ED delivers pilot programs, training, technical assistance, convenings, and grants that remove barriers to entrepreneurship—particularly for historically underserved communities.The Staff Assistant provides essential administrative and operational support to ensure the smooth execution of these programs. Responsibilities include managing internal tracking systems, preparing reports and correspondence, coordinating meetings and events, and supporting communication with grantees, partners, and stakeholders. The Staff Assistant also assists with data collection and analysis, document review, and the development of administrative procedures to improve efficiency. This role requires strong organizational skills, attention to detail, and the ability to work collaboratively in a fast-paced, mission-driven environment.Duties And ResponsibilitiesConducts fact-finding investigations which involve researching, analyzing, and preparingpertinent data/information incidental to report, statistical studies, special events, and ongoing projects. Examines and develops a variety of background information for use inpresenting factual and statistical data for special projects and/or reports. Conducts reviews of the operation(s) of the organization and provides suggestions to the supervisor. Identifies unusual problem areas and makes appropriate recommendationsfor resolution. Develop administrative data for the purpose of preparing special reports related to the program.Reviews all correspondence and documents prepared for the supervisor's signature forgrammatical accuracy, procedural conformity, format compliance, and provision ofsupporting documents. On one’s own initiative, returns to originator correspondence or document which is considered improper for signature of the supervisor. Performs an on-going review of administrative and clerical work being done to ensure that business needs are met. Identifies unusual problem areas and makes appropriate recommendations for resolution. Assists in the development of administrative policiesand procedures for the office to facilitate accomplishment on a timely basis.Qualifications And EducationSpecialized Experience that equipped the applicant with the particular knowledge, skills and abilities to perform successfully the duties of the position, and that is typically in or related to the work of the position to be filled. To be creditable, one (1) year of specialized experience must have been equivalent to at least the next lower grade level in the normal line of progression.Licenses and CertificationsNONEWorking Conditions/EnvironmentThe work is performed in an adequately lighted, heated, and ventilated office environment.
